Police Raid Findlay Business Monday

2/26/19 – 5:16 A.M.

The Hancock County METRICH Drug Task Force raided a Findlay business Monday. A release from the agency says officers seized items from Healthy Relax Massage at 825 Tiffin Avenue as part of an ongoing investigation.

The Findlay Police Department hasn’t released any other details on the case.

Teenager Pleads Guilty In Findlay Robbery Case

2/26/19 – 5:11 A.M.

A teenager has pleaded guilty to her role in an armed robbery in Findlay last summer. 18-year-old Kelsey Murfield of Delaware, Ohio entered her plea to a theft of drugs charge Monday. Investigators say Murfield and three others stole a pair of Nike Air Jordan shoes and some marijuana from the victim.

Murfield originally faced an aggravated robbery charge. Judge Jonathan Starn will sentence her on April 22.

The robbery took place behind the Domino’s Pizza store on North Main Street last summer.

Handful Of Power Outages Remain Following Sunday Wind Storm

2/26/19 – 5:02 A.M.

There are still a handful of power outages in Findlay following Sunday’s wind storm. American Electric Power says they are working to reconnect around 100 customers in the city. The company says it could be 3:30 p.m. today before they get the power back on for those still without it.

Sunday’s high wind cut electricity to hundreds of people in Hancock County. Most outages were repaired by late Monday night.

Investigation Into Wood County Nonprofit Agency Widens

Theft charges are being dropped against the head of a Wood County nonprofit as investigators launch a larger probe. County prosecutors say Linda Greene is now a person of interest into an apparent criminal case involving Impact With Hope. Sheriff’s deputies served search warrants yesterday at two Impact With Hope locations yesterday, but mum’s the word for now on the nature of the investigation.

Findlay Has New Mayor Appointed Monday

The City of Findlay has a new acting Mayor to finish out former Mayor Lydia Mihalik’s term. The Republican Central Committee appointed Christina Muryn over Holly Frische to the role during a Monday meeting. Muryn said she will keep the status quo for the time being…

While acting as mayor she will also be campaigning for the primary. Holly Frische said she she wont let this loss affect as she looks forward.

Frische and Muryn will also contend against Brian Robertson in the May Primary. The winner will face Chad Benschoter in November

State Representative Opposes Gas Tax Hike

Republican Ohio State Representative Jon Cross opposes Governor Mike DeWine’s proposed gas tax increase. Cross joined us on WFIN to talk about the 18 cent proposed hike. He said that they need to vet the increase more thoroughly.

He said that they also need to consider how Amish buggies can tear up Ohio roadways without the cost of gas. Cross added that he thinks that ODOT should be brought into budget planning.

Cross said that this can help maintain the budget and plan for more efficient road costs rather than hiking the gas tax.

BVHS Offering New Technology To Diagnose Parkinson Syndromes

Blanchard Valley Health System has new technology that helps diagnose Parkinson syndromes and more. The DaTscan is a radioactive injection to help take pictures of the brain with a special camera. The injection clarifies dopamine transporters on the image. This allows providers to more accurately diagnose conditions like Parkinson’s.

This procedure is the only FDA-approved visual adjunct imaging agent used to help diagnose these kinds of conditions. The service is only offered through physician referral and is done at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

UPDATE: Strong Winds Batter The Area

2/25/19 – 5:15 A.M.
UPDATE – 11:21 A.M.

The wind is gradually starting to die down after whipping through the region Sunday. The National Weather Service reports sustained winds in Findlay were between 30 and 40 miles per hour for most of Sunday, with 60 miles per hour wind gusts at times. We’ve seen sustained winds of around 25 miles per hour this morning with gusts topping 40 miles per hour at times. Wind speeds should drop below 10 miles per hour by tonight.

There are still several power outages as a result of the storm. American Electric Power reports more than 800 people are currently without power in Findlay. AEP says they should restore most of the outages in the city by 6 p.m. at the latest. There are scattered pockets of outages across the county that also have restoration times of 6 p.m.

GOP To Appoint Former Mayor Mihalik’s Replacement Tonight

2/25/19 – 11:08 A.M.

The Findlay members of the Hancock County GOP Central Committee will meet tonight to decide who should finish the rest of former Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik’s term. They’ll meet at 7 p.m. in city council chambers. The meeting is open to the public, but seating is limited. Both candidates, Christina Muryn and Holly Frische, have already interviewed with the committee.

Both will have three minutes to address the committee. A coin toss will decide who speaks first. The committee would have to give approval if a member nominates another candidate from the floor.

No matter who the committee selects, the two candidates will meet again in the May primary election. Hancock County Commissioner Brian Robertson is also running but chose not to seek the GOP appointment. Robertson said he had concerns about a limited transition time with the appointment.

Frische is the current 1st ward city council representative. Muryn is the director of business and physician development for the Pain Management Group in Findlay.
