Memorial Day Parade And Service In Findlay

People lined the streets as the Memorial Day Parade made its way from downtown Findlay to Maple Grove Cemetery.

The Findlay Trojan Marching Band entertained parade-goers as they marched by and people waved American Flags.

The parade ended at Maple Grove Cemetery where a service was held at the War Memorial to honor those who laid down their lives for our freedom.

Two members of the Findlay Trojan Marching Band performed taps.

After the service we had the pleasure of meeting 101-year-old Kyle Adams of Findlay, who served in the Navy in WWII.

See more of the parade and service in the videos below.

Overdosing Man Barricades Himself In Garage

The Findlay Police Department says a man overdosing on drugs barricaded himself in a garage when police arrived to investigate a report of a fight.

It happened around 3 a.m. Monday in the 1600 block of Lippincott Avenue.

Police say, upon their arrival, Chadwick Meeks, 32, ran into a garage and barricaded the doors.

Officers began negotiations in an attempt to get Meeks to exit the garage.

Police say, during the course of the investigation, it became apparent that the man was overdosing and he stopped responding to officers.

At that point, officers made entry into the garage and took Meeks into custody.

Police say Meeks was arrested on charges of domestic violence, violating a protective order and obstructing official business.

He was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment.

Findlay High School Class Of 2021 Graduation

The Findlay High School Class of 2021 received their diplomas during a chilly and breezy commencement ceremony at Donnell Stadium on Saturday morning.

In his remarks, Superintendent Troy Roth said he believes the characteristic that best describes this graduating class is grit.

“Grit is defined by Dictionary.com as firmness of character and an indomitable spirit…how did the Seniors sitting here in front of us today succeed during COVID-19? They had grit.”

Valedictorian Trinity Lee said the pandemic presented the Senior class with a lot of challenges.

“But I think we as a class have shown incredible strength in continuing to move forward and being able to sit in these seats today.”

“Thus, I want to congratulate all of you and I’m so proud to be part of the Class of 2021 with you guys.”

Findlay High School’s 149th graduating class was comprised of 351 students.

Mazza Museum Saddened By Passing Of “Iconic” Artists

The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum is reacting to the passing of children’s book author/illustrators Eric Carle and Lois Ehlert.

The museum said Carle was widely known for works such as “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “The Mixed-Up Chameleon”, and Ehlert for “Growing Vegetable Soup” and “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.”

The artists, and their work, have been a part of the museum for many years.

“University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum is saddened to hear of the passing of Eric Carle and Lois Ehlert this week,” said Ben Sapp, director of the Mazza Museum.

“Both were iconic creators of picture books, but also were humble and kind. All who found joy in their artwork through picture books were considered friends.”

Below is a picture of Sapp with a piece of work from both Carle and Ehlert.

In other news, The Mazza Museum will lift its “By Appointment Only” requirement on Wednesday, June 2nd, and resume normal hours of operation.

Visitors are invited to stop by the Museum, Gift Shop, and The Havens Resource Center and Library Wednesday through Friday 12-5 p.m., and Sunday 1-4 p.m. to explore the art of children’s picture books after June 2nd.
