Write-Ins Fill Up Ballot For Findlay City Schools Board Of Education

The Findlay City School District Board of Education will be a contested race this year. There are two spots open on the board and the Hancock County Board of Elections approved seven write-in candidates for the race. You can find a list of the candidates below.

Nobody had applied for the race before the primary deadline. You can vote for the school board in the general election this November.

Carey Man Injured Rollover Crash After Driving Under The Influence

08/28/17 – 1:43 P.M.

A Carey man was injured in a rollover crash Sunday evening. The Courier reports that 59-year old Jack Allison of Carey was heading east on Wyandot County Road 3 around 7 p.m. He went off the left side of the road, then went off to the right side and into a ditch where the car rolled before coming to a stop.

A helicopter took him to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. There’s no word on his condition. Allison was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Hancock Structural Steel Starts Work On New Expansion

Hancock Structural Steel broke ground on their new expansion last week. The new 4,000 square foot addition will add extra space to handle their growing workload. According to a release, the new expansion should be finished this October and will add 3-5 more fabrication positions.

Hancock Structural Steel started in 2007. They have fabricated structural steel for the building trades as well as handrails, stairways, mezzanines, ladders, and more.

UPDATED: Body Found In Parking Lot Of Findlay Church

UPDATED – 5:31 P.M.

Police have released information about the body that was found on Blanchard Avenue early Monday morning. The body was reported around 1:00 a.m. at 1701 Blanchard Avenue. That is the address of the Blanchard Avenue Pentecostal Church. Recent updates say that the body is of a 24-year-old white man. Police have not yet released the man’s name.

The incident remains under investigation but the report says that it appears to be a suicide. The man died of a gunshot wound and police recovered the gun involved. Police are asking for help from anyone with recorded security camera footage in the area.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.

 

Two Injured In Three Car Crash In Arcadia

8/28/17 – 7:29 A.M.

A three-car crash injured two people in Arcadia late last week. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports the collision happened just after 3 p.m. Friday on Fremont Street.

47-year-old Laura Greer of Findlay was driving northeast when she hit the back of a car driven by 39-year-old Tara Reinhard of Fostoria. Reinhard’s car then hit the back of a third car. Hanco Ambulance took Greer to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Fostoria EMS took Reinhard to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital.

Deputies cited Greer for an assured clear distance violation.

Findlay Man Injured In Friday Motorcycle Crash

8/28/17 – 7:17 A.M.

A motorcycle crash injured one person near North Baltimore Friday night. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash happened on Allen Township Road 14, north of Allen Township Road 114 just after 8 p.m.

Investigators say 56-year-old Alejandro Yruegas of Findlay was riding a motorcycle north when he lost control on a curve. Hanco Ambulance took Yruegas to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Deputies cited Yruegas for operation without reasonable control.

Gas Prices Up To Start The Week, Could Go Higher

8/28/17 – 6:57 A.M.

Local gas prices are up as we start the new work week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.31 in Findlay today. That’s up 19 cents over the last week.

Ottawa drivers report paying $2.29 today, up 14 cents from last Monday.

We could see prices rise again soon. Patrick Dehaan of GasBuddy.com forecasts prices could increase between 10 and 25 cents per gallon in the Midwest due to Hurricane Harvey’s impact in the Gulf of Mexico.

 

Fire Destroys Fostoria Area Mobile Home

8/28/17 – 6:44 A.M.

Fire destroyed a Fostoria mobile home early Sunday morning. The Review-Times reports firefighters responded to Lot 301 at 12400 West Axline Street around 3 a.m. When the fire department arrived there was already heavy smoke and flames coming from the living room.

The person living in the home escaped without injury, but the fire claimed the lives of seven pets, including two dogs, four cats, and a bird.

The fire did around $8,000 in damage and the mobile home was a total loss. The cause remains under investigation but doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

The American Red Cross is helping aid the home’s resident.

Friday Checkpoint Leads To Four OVI Arrests

8/28/17 – 5:33 A.M.

Authorities arrested four people during an OVI checkpoint on Tiffin Avenue in Findlay Friday night. The State Patrol reports officers stopped more than 950 vehicles between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday. Officers diverted five cars for further investigation and found four drivers impaired.

The checkpoint also led to two marijuana possession arrests.

A checkpoint in Putnam County on Saturday night led to one drunk driving arrest. Officers set that checkpoint up south of Kalida on State Route 115 near State Route 12.

State Representative Robert Sprague Talks About New Bills To Fight Heroin

08/28/17 5:30 A.M.

Ohio State Representative Robert Sprague was on WFIN to talk about a few new bills coming to the House. He said that one of these bills will offer special bottles to prevent others from pilfering prescription narcotics.

He said that this will help by letting people see if their pills are being stolen. Another bill will focus on cutting down on the number of pills prescribed over certain time periods. Sprague said that overprescribing has become a big issue in the heroin epidemic.
