Hancock County Veterans Services Offering Help Through Music For Vets With PTSD

Hancock County Veterans Services is working with local professionals and the University of Findlay Occupational Therapy students to provide musical therapy. Veterans Services executive director Nicole Coleman said that the music takes people back.

She added that this helps bring veterans happiness.

Coleman explained that this helps veterans through symptoms of PTSD like anxiety and depression. Each veteran in the “GI Tunes” program gets a custom-tailored playlist to help with PTSD. The veterans will work with Heartstring Melodies, who are professional musical therapists to create their playlist.

Two Injured In Crash Near Mount Blanchard

9/28/18 – 5:21 A.M.

A two-car crash injured two people west of Mount Blanchard Thursday afternoon. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports the collision happened at the intersection of State Route 103 and Hancock County Road 8 around 5 p.m.

23-year-old Hailey Hahn of Mount Blanchard was driving a Jeep south on Road 8 when she tried to turn left onto Route 103 and hit a car driven by 34-year-old Joshua Frisbie of Forest. Hanco EMS took Frisbie to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. They treated Hahn at the scene of the crash.

Deputies cited Hahn for failure to yield the right of way.

Senator Sherrod Brown Addresses Kavanaugh And Taxes On Car Manufacturers

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown was on WFIN to talk about several topics affecting the nation. He said that he is worried about the potential confirmation of Brent Kavanaugh as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

Brown said that he worries that Kavanaugh will push to remove consumer safety laws to benefit businesses. He added that this could allow insurance agencies to hike prices.

He also talked about taxes on car manufacturers. He said that manufacturers in Ohio like Jeep Chrysler in Toledo are forced to pay a 21% tax, which is higher than foreign manufacturers.

Brown said that he will have a bill coming before Congress to try and fix this tax issue. He added that there should be more incentive to keep manufacturers in the U.S.

Blanchard Valley Hospital Hosting A Designer Purse Bingo

09/11/18 – 6:35 P.M.

Blanchard Valley Hospital Gift Shop is hosting a bingo event with designer purses as prizes. The purses will be from brands like Michael Kors and Kate Spade. The event will be in the Marathon Auditorium of Blanchard Valley Hospital on September 22. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the first bingo call will be at 7 p.m.

Aside from bingo, there will also be silent auctions, a 50/50 raffle, and light snacks. Tickets are $35 and are available in the BVH Gift SHop or by calling 419-425-5388.

Flood Warning Issued For Western Putnam County

8/21/18 – 8:52 A.M.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for western Putnam County until 9:30 a.m. Heavy rain showers this morning dumped between 2 and 4 inches of rain in parts of the region. That’s resulted in high water across some roads.

The flood warning also includes southeastern Henry County and west central Allen County.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown Explains Farm Bill Proposal

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown joined us on WFIN to talk about the farm bill. Brown said that the proposed bill will do more to protect water quality.

Brown explained that the bill will help protect farmers from low farm prices. This affects the amount of money they can make.

Brown said that they hope to pass the Farm Bill by the end of the week.

Health Department Says Merger Was A Success, Needs A New Building

Findlay City Council got an update on the city and county health department merger. Health commissioner Karim Baroudi said that it was a good decision to combine the departments.

Aside from needing a new building Baroudi said that they have expanded services He added the department is also looking forward to getting accredited sometime in early 2019.

Findlay City Schools Hosts Discussion About School Safety

Over 200 parents, teachers, and students met to discuss the safety at Findlay City Schools with a panel of local officials. Superintendent Ed Kurt said that getting thoughts and opinions from outside sources is important.

Many of the people that came expressed concerns about people getting into the schools. They thought metal detectors would be a necessary investment. Others thought that parents need to do more to be involved in school activities.

Traffic Backed Up On I-75

03/01/18 – 11:36 A.M.

An Accident has caused a major back up on I-75 North and roadwork is affecting traffic in the southbound lanes. Waze users report that a semi truck jackknifed closing the northbound lanes adding about half an hour to your drive. To get around this jam you’ll want to hop off I-75 at State Route 235 heading north. Then you’ll want to head east on State Route 12 back towards Findlay and I-75.

Construction has backed up traffic to one lane heading southbound clear to County Road 99. To get around this jam you’ll want to head west on 99 towards County Road 140. Head south on 140 towards State Route 12 where you’ll want to turn west. Stay on 12 until you reach State Route 235 and continue heading south until you reach I-75.
