Hancock Public Heath has made it’s weekly release of Covid-19 data, and the information isn’t good.
Hancock County had 98 news case in the previous 7 days, that’s a rate of over 116 per 100-thousand, qualifying as “High” community transmission as defined by the Centers for Disease Control. The test positivity rate is 7.6%, nearly 4-times the rate of just 3 weeks ago.

With high transmission, the CDC recommends masks for all people when indoors in public spaces, no matter one’s vaccination status.

The department also reported 4 new hospitalizations and 2 additional deaths. That brings the pandemic death toll in Hancock County to 138.

An injury accident was reported on Wednesday afternoon in Delaware Township. A pick-up truck was west-bound of County Road 304, old US 30, pulling a combine header and stopped for a stop sign at the intersection. A 2012 Ford Festiva driven by Ryan Yantis of Mount Blanchard was following the truck at a high rate of speed and failed to stop, crashing into the header-wagon.

Yantis was transported to a local hospital, then Life-Flighted to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. The driver of the truck was not injured, though the Ford Festiva and combine header sustained heavy damage. The acicdent remains under investigation.

Humble Robinson Development has purchased a 35 acre site adjacent to the planned Amazon Distribution facility of Findlay’s northeast side. According to a release from Findlay Hancock Economic Development, the site will be marketed for development by Humble Robinson in cooperation with the development organization..

The site lies in the southeast corner of Bigelow and Crystal avenues, though access will be gained from Bright Road.

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts at Ohio Northern University has announced the schedule for it’s 30^th season of shows. The schedule includes a variety of concerts, shows, and productions featuring university talent and touring companies.

The Freed Center is named in honor of former university president and his wife DeBow and Kitty Freed.

Those who would like to be a Findlay police office now have their chance. The Findlay Civil Service Commission will proctor the Civil Service Exam the evening of Wednesday, September 29^th in the cafeteria at Findlay High School. Those interested in taking the test must file a Civil Service Application form by 4pm on Wednesday, September 9^th, to be eligible to take the test. Forms are available at the Findlay Police Department.

The Findlay Service League is hosting an information event on Wednesday for those who may be interested in joining the organization. The open house meeting will be held from 4:30 to 6 in Gregor’s at Feasel’s Garden Center on County Road 95 on Findlay’s northeast side.

The Service League is a group of women that actively volunteer in the community.

Hope House of Findlay has been selected as a finalist in the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant program. The local housing assistance organization was selected as a finalist from over 2-thousand applicants. A grant of $25-thousand will be given to the top 40 vote-getters during a 10-day voting period ending August 27^th.

Hope House operates a transitional shelter for women and children and offers rent assistance for families facing the threat of homelessness.

The Marathon Center for the Performing Arts is rescheduling a concert planned for Thursday night. Fleetwood Mac tribute band Tusk had been scheduled to perform this week, but the lighting sytem in the main hall was damaged during last week;s storm and will not be repaired in time.

Tusk has been rescheduled for November 14^th. Tickets for the original date will be honored at the concert in November.

The University of Findlay has named a new chair for the Physical Sciences Department. Dr. Nathan Tice now fills that role along with his efforts as an associate professor of chemistry at the University. Tice came to UF as an adjunct professor in 2014, moving into a full-time teaching role the following year. He has hopes to expand the department’s offering.

The Department of Physical Sciences is part of the university’s College of Sciences that also includes the school’s equine, math, computer science, and environmental health & safety programs.

Bowling Green State University is being recognized by Insight Into Diversity magazine for the school’s CODE4her mentoring program. CODE4her offers female students in grade 5 though a computer science mentorship. It hosts several programs on campus each year to inspire girls to pursue additional training in the field. Launched in 2017, the training effort has earned the “Inspiring Programs In STEM” award from the magazine and will be featured in the September issue.
