Findlay City Schools held a public forum to discuss the safety and security levy that is on the ballot this November. There were some questions as to why the district is using a property tax over income or sales taxes. FCS Treasurer Mike Barnhart explained that a property tax will get money from businesses.
Barnhart said that with how the legislation is written, an income tax would solely affect the people who live in the district and not the businesses. He added that the legislation won’t allow the school district to go for a sales tax.
The levy will help support school security by upgrading technology, hiring resource officers, and offering mental health services for at-risk students.
