The Ohio State Department of Athletics and football program was saddened on Sunday morning to learn of the death of Nick Mangold, who passed away at the age of 41 from complications from kidney disease.

Mangold, an All-American center during his career with the Buckeyes, played for Ohio State from 2002-05. He started 33 games in his career and became the first-ever Ohio State center to be chosen in the first round of the NFL Draft. Mangold played on teams that were 43-8 over his four-year career and won four bowl games. In 2023, he was enshrined into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame.

A native of Centerville, Ohio, Mangold’s NFL career was filled with honors. Over his 11-year career – all of which he played with the New York Jets – he made seven Pro Bowl appearances. Mangold started 171 games for the Jets from 2006 through 2017, including seven playoff games and two NFC Championship Game appearances. He was named a first-team All-Pro after his 2009 and 2010 seasons and a second-team All-Pro in 2011.

In 2022, Mangold was inducted into the Jets’ Ring of Honor. Just last week, he was selected to advance to the next round of voting for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026.

The City of Findlay is performing numerous construction projects throughout the city. The status of some of the projects is weather and contractor schedule permitting. Listed below are some of the projects and the restrictions that result from the ongoing projects. These restrictions are in effect from October 27, 2025, until further notice.

KENNISON DRIVE – Penrose Drive to Spring Lake Drive West – Kennison Drive will be closed to all traffic in sections from Penrose Drive to Spring Lake Drive West for trench repair.

PENROSE DRIVE – Western Avenue to Kennison Drive – Penrose Drive will be closed to all traffic in sections from Western Avenue to Kennison Drive for trench repair.

KIRK DRIVE – Western Avenue to Spring Lake Drive West – Kirk Drive will be closed to all traffic in sections from Western Avenue to Spring Lake Drive West for a sanitary trench repair.

SPRING LAKE DRIVE WEST – TR 80 to Dead End – Spring Lake Drive West will be closed to all traffic in sections from TR 80 to Dead End for trench repair.

SPRING LAKE DRIVE EAST – TR 80 to Dead End – Spring Lake Drive East will be closed to all traffic in sections from TR 80 to Dead End for sanitary sewer mainline installation.

SHERRY STREET – Sixth Street to Pearl Street – Sherry Street will be closed to all traffic from Sixth Street to Pearl Street for paving.

SR 568 – CR 236 to TR 241 – SR 568 will be maintained with by flaggers from CR 236 to TR 241 for the installation of Greenway Trail Phase 3.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has released the first-round pairings for the football playoffs that begin on Friday, October 31.

The Findlay Trojans (6-4) have a first-round bye and will play on Friday, November 7, hosting the winner of the October 31 game between Huber Heights Wayne and Galloway Westland. The game will be aired on WFIN from Donnell Stadium with pregame beginning at 6:30

Liberty-Benton (10-0) will host Delta (6-4) on Friday, October 31 at 7 p.m, and can be heard on 100.5 WKXA.

Arlington (7-3) will play at Pandora-Gilboa (7-3) on Friday, October 31 at 7 p.m in a game that will be aired on 106.3 The Fox.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash.  

The sheriff’s office said Ronald Moening, 77, of Forest, was driving a pickup truck southbound on State Route 37 a little after 7 p.m. Sunday when his truck went off the right side of the roadway.

The truck hit a utility pole and traveled through a field before coming to rest against a trailer in a parking lot south of County Road 304.

Moening was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced deceased.

A passenger in the vehicle, Joan Moening, 79, of Forest, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A lot of little superheroes and princesses hit the sidewalks of Findlay on Saturday for the city’s annual Trick-or-Treat.

A lot of parents got into the spirit as well, with a few creepy-looking Michael Myers ushering their kids from house to house. (see video below)

Wrapping up National School Bus Safety Week with a celebration!

This morning, LEADS students presented gifts to the bus drivers and shared the posters middle school students had made to celebrate the important work our drivers do every day.

This afternoon, students came together for a pep rally to recognize our amazing law enforcement officers and bus drivers who keep our students safe.

Students were praised by Hancock County Sheriff Michael Cortez for the work they have done to promote bus safety and participated in some bus-themed games to close out the week on a high note.

A huge thank-you to Deputy Crouch, our bus drivers, and our LEADS students for making this week such a meaningful reminder of how safety, teamwork, and respect go hand in hand.
