(From Findlay Police Chief James Mathias)
On 06-18-2025 from 1900 -1945 hrs. the City of Findlay and Hancock County were under a severe thunderstorm warning along with a tornado warning for the area just south of Findlay, OH. Winds at the Findlay Airport were reported at 68 MPH during this event. The disaster sirens were activated by the Findlay Police Department after the media announcement of a tornado warning for southern Hancock County.
There was widespread damage throughout the City of Findlay from downed limbs, few large trees that had fallen, and power lines on the ground. At 1915 hrs., there were two reports of damage to City of Findlay property. A large steel and wood framed overhang structure on the east side of the property for employee parking lot G (224 W. Crawford St.) was raised up slightly by the gust of wind and then came down on top of five parked and unattended vehicles owned by the City of Findlay. Four of the five vehicles sustained damage and two were moderate to heavily damaged. A twenty foot steel light post in the parking lot of the Municipal Building (318 Dorney Plaza) fell in the lot due to the gust of wind and damaged the lights, but did not cause any other damage or injuries. We did not receive any reports of injuries during this storm. This damage to the structure has been cleaned up as of this morning.
American Electric Power and Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative were responding to calls for service due to power lines being down and for loss of electricity.
