Community members are encouraged to attend a sendoff for the Findlay High School hockey team as they look to advance in the playoffs.
“Let’s send off the boys to beat BG on Saturday!” it said on the hockey team’s Facebook page.
The sendoff will be held on Saturday, February 24th at 12:30 p.m. at the CUBE, located at 3420 North Main Street.
People are encouraged to bring signs, bells and be ready to be loud.
There will also be music and snacks.

Hancock County Health Commissioner, Karim Baroudi, has resigned his position effective March 29, 2024.
He will be transitioning to the role of Health Commissioner at the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department in April 2024.
Karim has been instrumental in the operating success of Hancock Public Health since the combination in 2016 to establish it as a premiere organization in meeting the public health needs of the entire community.
He has made it his mission that Hancock Public Health is an active partner on various coalitions and initiatives supporting the population the agency serves.
Karim has been successful in building relationships both within the City of Findlay and in the villages and townships of Hancock County to ensure that all voices had an opportunity to be heard.
He was pivotal in securing a permanent location for the health agency in 2019, which has allowed HPH to expand its services in response to the ever-changing public health landscape.
Karim was also the constant and reassuring voice to the citizens of Hancock County during the COVID pandemic, when there was oftentimes conflicting information that led to confusion and uncertainty.
He worked alongside community partners towards the fruition of the mobile health clinic; that was realized in 2021 and has been another valuable asset in improving individual and population health outcomes.
Hancock Public Health wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Karim for the years he dedicated in service to Findlay and the Hancock County community.
The Board of Health has activated a search committee to seek and hire the best candidate.
Lindsay Summit, current Assistant Health Commissioner, will serve in an interim capacity upon Karim’s departure.

Marathon Petroleum employees showcased various career opportunities within the company and advised students on how to prepare for future success.

The Kiwanis Club of Findlay Pancake Day fundraiser is coming up.
The all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausages event is the club’s biggest fundraiser and will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at the Findlay High School cafeteria from 7 to 1.
“It’s no secret that Kiwanis and Pancake Day go hand in hand. In many Kiwanis towns across North America, the pancake is King when it comes to fundraising.”
The club says proceeds from Pancake Day help the Kiwanis Club of Findlay support the youth of Findlay and Hancock County.
WFIN’s Chris Oaks had some Kiwanians on his show to talk about Kiwanis and Pancake Day.
One of the club’s recent accomplishments is the creation of Brucklacher Memorial Park at the Little Red Schoolhouse, which was the club’s 100th anniversary gift to the community.
The club says support of Pancake Day allows them to reinvest the profit from the event into the community’s youth.
Some investments in the past have included Kiwanis Closets which provide basic clothing supplies to every elementary school in Hancock County.
Presale tickets for Pancake Day are $7 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under and seniors.
Tickets may be purchased from any Kiwanis member, and at Trends on Main, AAA Findlay, Heavenly Pizza, and at the door.

Calling all student artists in Ohio’s Fifth District.
The 2024 Congressional Art Competition is now open!
High School students who live or attend school in Ohio’s Fifth District may submit original art pieces for a chance to win this year’s competition and have their artwork hung in the U.S. Capitol.
The winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. for one year, and three honorable mention pieces will be displayed in Congressman Latta’s district offices

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash west of Findlay.
The crash happened on State Route 186 near Township Road 93 on Tuesday morning around 6:30.
The sheriff’s office said John P. Nazaire, 31, of Lake Park, Florida, was driving south on State Route 186 when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a fence.
Nazaire and a passenger were taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Nazaire was cited for driving without a license and failure to maintain control.

In memory of fallen Findlay Police Officer William Holly, mourning bands will be worn all day by all sworn Findlay Police Officers on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 0001 hrs. until 1159 hrs. Policeman Holly was shot and killed while he and another officer chased two burglary suspects.
One of the men opened fire on Policeman Holly, killing him. Both suspects were arrested and charged with murder. The suspect who shot Policeman Holly was sentenced to 20 years at hard labor.
We remember Officer Holly for his ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of citizens in the City of Findlay, OH.
Ofcr. Holly’s name is represented on our local memorial at the Ft. Findlay Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #20 on S. Romick Parkway and also at Officer Down Memorial Page and all of our Officers and Troopers in Hancock County who have died in the line of duty.
ODMP is the country’s largest law enforcement memorial, and our online presence enables supporters to learn about and honor fallen heroes regardless of their geographic location.

Ohio’s Primary Election is coming up on March 19th and WFIN is holding candidate forums to get you familiarized with the candidates.
On Monday night we heard from the Republican candidates in the 83rd District of the Ohio House of Representatives, incumbent Jon Cross and challenger Ty Mathews. The winner will face Democrat Sheila Coressel in the fall.
“From the initial launch of my campaign for public office in 2018 and after serving three terms in the Ohio House, my guiding mission continues to be to keep Ohio, and the 83rd District, safer, stronger, and open for business,” Cross said.
Ty Mathews says he believes there is a great need and opportunity to restore trust and confidence in government and state institutions.
“As a U.S. Army officer in the Ohio National Guard, I routinely see firsthand how a servant leadership commitment and practice earns the trust and confidence of the American people.”
The forum included plenty of back and forth between Cross and Mathews on House Bill 2 which Cross touted for bringing millions of dollars to the 83rd District but hasn’t yet been passed by the Ohio Senate due to infighting in the Republican party.

The next candidate forum will be on February 26th and feature the candidates for Hancock County Sheriff, and then on March 4th a forum will be held with the candidates for Hancock County Commissioner.

The forums are held live at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts from 5 to 6 p.m. and are moderated by WFIN’s Chris Oaks.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on U.S. Route 23 in Wyandot County.
The crash happened at around 6 a.m. Monday near Township Road 65 in Pitt Township.
The Highway Patrol said Brady D. Neifer, 25, of Archbold, was driving south on Route 23 when his vehicle struck an unknown vehicle.
The impact caused Neifer’s vehicle to go off the road and crash, coming to rest along a tree line.
The unknown vehicle left the scene of the crash, according to investigators.
Neifer was pronounced dead on the scene by the Wyandot County coroner.
The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information about the unknown vehicle or its driver should contact the Bucyrus Post at 419-562-8040.
