One of the winners of the state’s latest Vax-2-School drawings is from Fostoria.

The latest Ohio Vax-2-School winners include Cheryl Weaver, of Fostoria, Meadow Stiles, of Toledo, and other individuals from around the state.

They each won a $10,000 scholarship.

Other winners will be announced daily this week.

The final entry deadline is December 1st for the $100,000 grand-prize drawings.

Ohio Vax-2-School is a series of statewide drawings to provide incentives to younger Ohioans to get the COVID vaccine.

The Findlay Police Department is investigating a hit-skip crash that sent one person to the hospital.

The crash happened in the 1100 block of West Trenton Avenue at around 6:30 Monday night.

Police say the driver of a westbound van was stopped in the outside left turn lane, waiting to turn south into the Walmart parking lot, when he was struck on the right side by a westbound car that tried to enter the same turn lane.

Police say the car, an unknown white sedan, fled the scene westbound.

The driver of the van was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Findlay Airport will be getting a very special visit from Santa Claus a few weeks before Christmas.

The airport says Santa and his elves will be flying into the airport on Monday, December 13th in Santa’s vintage 1947 Stinson 108 airplane.

Everyone’s invited to come out and take some pictures with Santa and his vintage plane.

The free event will take place in a heated hangar from 5 to 7 on December 13th.

Hot chocolate and sweet treats will be available.

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is celebrating a new StoryWalk at the Benton Ridge Park.

StoryWalk is an innovative way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time.

Pages from a children’s book are attached to a post, and placed along a path.

Children and their caregivers then follow the path where they will find the book, two pages at a time, along the path.

“StoryWalk is a great opportunity for families to enjoy the experience of reading together while also exploring one of our great local parks,” said library director Sarah Clevidence.

“We are excited to expand the StoryWalk program to this new location and grateful for the support of the Benton Ridge community.”

The book chosen for the kickoff event is Bear Can’t Wait, by Karma Wilson.

The library’s original StoryWalk is located at Riverside Park in Findlay.

That path runs clockwise from the bandshell to the Waterfalls Pavilion.

There is a new story every month for the community to enjoy.

StoryWalk was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

It is made possible in Hancock County thanks to a HancockREADs grant from the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office believes four recent residential break-ins are related.

The sheriff’s office says four garages were entered on Friday night into Saturday morning a little west of Findlay.

Two of the break-ins were in the area of State Route 12 and County Road 128 and the other two were in the area of County Road 139 and County Road 95.

The sheriff’s office says all four break-ins had similar characteristics and appear to be associated.

The sheriff’s office is seeking help from the public in identifying the people responsible.

Hancock County Sheriff Michael Heldman has announced that two Toys for Tots drop-off boxes will be available in the sheriff’s office lobby to help the organization recover from the theft of $20,000 in toys a few weeks back. (video below)

He says the drop-off boxes will be available 24/7 over the next few weeks and hopes people stop by to donate a toy or two.

Larry DeVelvis, the Toys for Tots coordinator for Hancock and southern Wood County, discovered the theft on November 15th.

He says somebody stole 40 boxes of donated toys that contained about 2,000 toys worth about $20,000.

Despite this setback, he says they plan on helping as many kids as ever this holiday season.

As for the theft, Sheriff Heldman said investigators were following up on some leads but had no suspects as of Monday afternoon.

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is once again giving library patrons the opportunity to share the joy of books with children during the annual “Give the Gift of Reading” program.

Donations will support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Each $25 donated provides a Hancock County child with an age appropriate book delivered to their home monthly for one year.

A new carefully selected book will be mailed, in the child’s name, to his or her home each and every month from birth until he or she turns five years of age.

Donations may be made at the Circulation Services desk, the Arlington Branch Library or the Bookmobile.

Donations made to the Hancock Literacy Fund at the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation help support the program in perpetuity.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Trooper Damian Roose has been selected as the 2021 Trooper of the Year at the Findlay Post.

The selection of the 29-year-old Roose is in recognition of his outstanding service during at the Findlay Post in 2021.

Fellow officers stationed at the Findlay Post chose Trooper Roose based on his leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.

Trooper Roose is now in contention for the District and State Trooper of the Year Awards to be announced at a later date.

Trooper Roose has served at the Findlay Post since joining the Highway Patrol in 2018.

Originally from Holland, Ohio and a graduate of Oak Harbor High School, Trooper Roose served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Other Highway Patrol awards received in the past include the Safe Driving Ribbon and the Military Service Ribbon.

Trooper Roose and his wife, Katelyn, live in Maumee with their two children.

The City of Findlay is looking for members of the community who are interested in serving on the Community Outreach Team as the city begins its strategic planning process.

The Community Outreach Team will help engage the community so they can share their ideas and insights and build on the city’s collective vision.

Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn says the city needs committed community members interested in the future of Findlay to help make the Strategic Plan a success.

She’s encouraging people to become a member of the Community Outreach Team and help Findlay continue to be a one-of-a-kind, world-class community for generations to come.

The Community Outreach Team (COT) will primarily focus on word-of-mouth marketing and promotion of public engagement opportunities 4-6 weeks prior to each of the two rounds of public engagement.

The team will also help interpret community input and help guide and inform the community engagement process.

It is expected that this group will meet six times throughout the 12-month planning process.

Most time is spent emailing or social media sharing, distributing print collateral or other outreach methods on your own time in advance of each of the two rounds of public engagement.

The first Community Outreach Team meeting is anticipated to be held the week of January 17th, 2022.

Applications are due December 13th and are available to complete online or for download on the City of Findlay website.

The Coats for Christmas collection drive is happening this week in Findlay.

Each year the organization helps those who are on a tight budget and in need of a winter coat and cannot afford one.

The organization asks area schools and some businesses, organizations, and individuals to collect and donate gently used winter coats.

City Uniforms and Linens, cleans all of the coats, which is no small task because they generally collect more than 2,300 coats each year.

There is also a goal to have enough gloves and hats for everyone who comes to collect a coat.

In addition, blankets and socks will also be available at the event.

Coats will be collected from Monday, November 29th through Friday, December 3rd.

The coats can be dropped off at the new City Apparel business location at 116 E. Main Cross Street, which was the prior location of City Dry Cleaning.

Coats may also be dropped off at various Findlay City Schools and county school locations, as well as local businesses with donation boxes.

People who wish to purchase new coats, hats, mittens, or blankets for the event, can drop those off at the downtown YMCA Branch at 300 Lincoln Street in Findlay prior to Friday, December 10th.

Then on Saturday, December 11th and Sunday, December 12th, the East Branch YMCA will be transformed into a distribution center.

Anyone and everyone is welcome at the distribution and each person/family that does come is paired with a personal shopper.

Anyone can come get a coat and other winter gear on Saturday, December 11th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, December 12th from 1 p.m. to p.m. at the East Branch YMCA at 1400 Manor Hill Rd. in Findlay.
