University Of Findlay Holds 9/11 Service

Students and staff at the University of Findlay gathered for a 9/11 service on Friday.

At the service, Matthew Ginter, director of Christian Ministries, asked people to remember and pray for those who lost their lives 20 years ago on 9/11 and to pause and consider the innumerable lives that have been affected since.

Saturday will mark 20 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America.

The City of Findlay and Hancock County will be holding a parade and memorial service on Saturday.

ODOT Hiring Snow Plow Drivers For Hancock & Other Counties

The Ohio Department of Transportation says it’s never too early to get ready for winter.

And that’s why they’re already hiring snow plow drivers.

ODOT is inviting people who have a commercial drivers license (CDL) to come plow snow for them this winter.

District 1 is hiring in Hancock, Putnam, Wyandot, Allen, Defiance, Hardin, Paulding and Van Wert Counties.

Plowing snow is the primary job responsibility for winter seasonal positions but employees may also be asked to perform other operational duties.

The pay is $18.59 per hour.

Previous experience plowing snow is not necessary.

Training is available for applicants who meet the basic requirements.

Police Department Holding Gun Safety Course For Women

The Fostoria Police Division will be holding a gun safety course for women from the Fostoria area.

Officers will provide instruction to women on gun safety for a variety of firearms.

Women who already have a firearm may bring it, unloaded, with ammunition to the range on the day of the course.

Loading and unloading of any weapon will be conducted with a range officer present.

All firearms will be inspected before the class and any deemed to be unsafe by the range officers will not be allowed to be used on the range.

For people who don’t have a firearm, there will be several available to try out and train with during the course.

The course will be held on Saturday, October 2nd from 10 to 4.

There is no cost to attend.

You must be 21 years of age or older to participate.

HPH Reporting Another Increase In COVID Cases

Hancock County health officials are reporting another jump in COVID cases in the county.

Hancock Public Health says there were 253 new cases, 19 new hospitalizations and one new death during the week of September 3rd through the 9th.

Hancock County is averaging 36 new cases per day.

Community transmission in Hancock County remains “high” as defined by the CDC.

Hancock Public Health says 43 percent of Hancock County residents are fully vaccinated.

There were 208 new cases of COVID over the previous reporting period, the week of August 27th through September 2nd.

 

 

Findlay Police Thwart Robbery In Progress

Some Findlay police officers made quick work of a robbery suspect.

The Findlay Police Department says officers were dispatched to Wolfies Roasted Nuts on Glessner Avenue for a robbery in progress at around 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon.

Police say a man had entered the business, stated that he had a gun, and demanded the money.

Police arrived to find the suspect, 43-year-old Christopher Sterling, of Findlay, in front of the store.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Sterling was booked at the Hancock County Justice Center for aggravated robbery.

No one was injured during the robbery.

 

 

Gliding Stars Of Findlay In Need Of On-Ice Volunteers

Gliding Stars of Findlay is back and looking for on-ice volunteers.

Gliding Stars is an adaptive ice skating program that gives people with special needs a chance to enjoy some time on the ice with the help of a coach.

Cindy Bregel, executive director of the Findlay chapter of the organization, says the program helps improve the participants’ motor skills, strength and speech.

And she says the socialization and friendships that come from the program are priceless.

 

 

Cindy said they haven’t been on the ice since March of 2020 because of the pandemic and it’ll be great to be back.

The first day for the program will be Sunday, September 12th from 1:30 to 3 at The Cube.

Then the season will conclude with an Ice Show in March of 2022.

She said it’s very rewarding to be an on-ice volunteer and they still need some for the upcoming season.

Cooper Tire Findlay Plant 200 Millionth Tire

Cooper Tire’s Findlay manufacturing plant is celebrating production of its 200 millionth tire.

Cooper says 200 million tires stacked end to end would stretch 96,000 miles and be able to circle the earth nearly four times.

Cooper Tire announced that its Findlay, Ohio, manufacturing plant reached a milestone today with the production of its 200 millionth tire, a Cooper® Discoverer® AT3 LT™.

The Findlay plant was constructed in 1919 and was Cooper Tire’s first manufacturing facility. Today, it employs approximately 900 associates within one million square feet of production space. In June, Cooper Tire became part of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, combining two leading companies with complementary product portfolios, services and capabilities and creating a strong U.S.-based leader in the global tire industry.

National Library Card Sign-Up Month

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is encouraging people who don’t have one yet to get a library card during National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September.

Library Director Sarah Clevidence says at the library they believe there’s nothing more empowering than getting your own library card.

“It gives you access to technology, resources and services to help you pursue your passions and your dreams.”

 

 

Sarah says 27,334 members of the community are currently library card holders and they’d like to sign up a lot more during National Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Ohio’s Capital City To Reissue Indoor Mask Order

The mayor of Columbus, Andrew Ginther, has announced he plans to issue an executive order requiring people to wear a face mask in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status.

Ginther made the announcement during a news conference alongside Columbus health officials.

The mayor said masks, along with vaccines, are the best way to keep people safe.

 

 

He added that the executive order is about slowing the spread of the virus and keeping Columbus safe and open for business.

Ginther said the executive order will go into effect when he signs it on Friday.

Ginther is also asking people who have not been vaccinated to get vaccinated today.

 

 

‘Touch A Truck’ This Weekend In Findlay

A fun, free event that kids and adults both will enjoy is coming up this weekend.

Touch A Truck will be held at the Hancock County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 11th from 10 to 2.

Called “a kid’s dream day” youngsters have the opportunity to get up-close and hands-on with tractors, semis, emergency vehicles and more.

There will be activities, giveaways and raffles.

The event is sponsored by Garner Trucking, the Hancock County Farm Bureau and FIC Dealerships.

The event is free to the public. Food will be available for purchase.

All proceeds from Touch A Truck will go to the Children’s Museum of Findlay.
