Move With The Mayor Event Tuesday

Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn is encouraging community members to be more active. The next Move With The Mayor even will be held Tuesday and will include a walk on the new recreation path along County Road 236.
The walk will begin at CVS Pharmacy at the corner of 236 and Tiffin Avenue on Tuesday (today) at 11:30am. The event is being held in partnership with the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention.

Carey Man Indicted By Wood County Grand Jury

A Carey man has been indicted by a Wood County grand jury. The Sentinel-Tribune reports that Allen Hoker II has been indicted for two second degree counts of felonious assault, first degree felony kidnapping, disrupting public service, a fourth degree felony; and domestic violence, a first degree misdemeanor.

The charges stem from events of late July of this year.  An arrest warrant has been issued for Hoker.

Local Artists Get Exhibit at Tiffin University

The Diane Kidd Gallery at Tiffin University will host an exhibition of works by Blanchard Valley Plein Air Painters through September 30th. The are group was organized in 2013 as a program by the Hancock Park District. Seven local artists will have their works on display during the exhibition.

The Plein Air movement dates to France in the 19th century. The title comes from a French term translated as “outdoors,  and describes the concept where artists produce complete paintings of what they see while on location away from their studios.

Hancock Sheriff Offers Citizen Academy

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Citizen Sheriff’s Academy beginning September 9th. The program will feature 9 weeks of meetings where area residents can learn more about the workings of the sheriff’s office. Each session will last from 6:30 to 9 and will be held at the Sheriff’s Office. 200 West Crawford Street in Findlay.

ODOT Update For The Week Of August 23rd

Construction season continues for the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Area construction projects include resurfacing of US 224 from Findlay east to the Seneca County Line. One-lane traffic will be maintained, though delayed.
Finish work on Interstate 75 through Findlay will continue.
Shoulder and berm work will occur on US 30, though traffic should not me effected.

Ohio 698 remains closed for a bridge replacement between Jenera and County Road 313.
State Route 199 between Carey and Upper Sandusky is also closed for a bridge replacement project.

And traffic on US 23 between Fostoria and Carey will be maintained in one lane as a paving project continues.

Man Arrested After Saturday Morning Stabbing

Findlay Police were called to the Blanchard Valley Hospital early Saturday morning. A patient at the Emergency Room was being treated for a stab wound. The patient stated he was stabbed while at the Ole Stoney Ledge at the corner of Broad and Howard Streets and identified the attacker.

Police located the accused, Joshua Anders. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Hancock County jail on charges of felonious assault.

Gliding Stars Seeks Volunteers

Gliding Stars of Findlay is seeking volunteers to help out for the program’s 20th season that begins September 12th.

Gliding Stars is an ice skating program for those with disabilities. The program runs through March and culminates with the Gliding Stars annual ice show.

Executive Director Cindy Bregel says there’s a volunteer opportunity for everyone..  You don’t have to have skates, or even be able to skate to help out.

Van Buren Man Injured in Findlay Crash

A Van Buren man was hospitalized after a Thursday collision at the intersection of East and Lincoln streets in Findlay. Joseph Brooks on Van Buren was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital by ambulance.

According to the police at around 6:20pm, Michelle Wentling of Carey was driving east on Lincoln when she was struck by the Brooks vehicle in the intersection. Each driver claimed to have a green light at the time. No citations were posted as there were no witnesses to the crash.

COVID Number Rising In Hancock County

Hancock Public Heath has made it’s weekly release of Covid-19 data, and the information isn’t good.
Hancock County had 98 news case in the previous 7 days, that’s a rate of over 116 per 100-thousand, qualifying as “High” community transmission as defined by the Centers for Disease Control. The test positivity rate is 7.6%, nearly 4-times the rate of just 3 weeks ago.

With high transmission, the CDC recommends masks for all people when indoors in public spaces, no matter one’s vaccination status.

The department also reported 4 new hospitalizations and 2 additional deaths. That brings the pandemic death toll in Hancock County to 138.
