An 85-year-old Hancock County man has died from the coronavirus.

Hancock Public Health says six county residents have now died from COVID-19.

The sixth death was revealed in the Monday data, which puts the number of total cases at 482, an increase of 22 from Friday.

The number of active cases went up to 59, an increase of 10 from Friday.

Active cases are patients who are currently under quarantine or isolation.

42 people have been hospitalized from the virus in Hancock County since the beginning of the pandemic and six residents have died from it.

Hancock County is at level 2, or orange, on the state’s COVID-19 alert map.

(ONN) – State Representative John Becker, a Republican from near Batavia, east of Cincinnati, has drafted ten articles of impeachment against Governor Mike DeWine over his response to the coronavirus.

Becker is asking his 98 House colleagues to join him in “ending the madness.”

A article on the Ohio House website says DeWine has violated the Ohio and U.S. constitutions, as well as multiple sections of the Ohio revised code.

DeWine is accused of meddling in the conduct of a Presidential primary election and arbitrarily closing certain business while allowing others to remain open.

The article also says DeWine’s statewide mask mandate is making Ohio a hostile work environment.

Four people were injured in a crash between a semi and an SUV just south of Fostoria.

The crash happened at the intersection of U.S. 23 and County Road 18 at 7:53 Sunday morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Andrew Durbin, 32, of Findlay, was going east on County Road 18 and failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a semi that was southbound on U.S. 23.

Durbin was taken to Fostoria Community Hospital for his injuries.

Durbin had two 14-year-old passengers from Fostoria in his vehicle.

Daniel Gilbert and Kyler Rinker were each flown to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

The highway patrol says everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol and drugs are not considered to be a factor.

Free testing for COVID-19 will be available in Findlay on Monday.

A pop-up testing site will be open from 10 to 2 at The Cube at 3430 North Main Street.

No appointment or doctor’s note is necessary.

Testing will be on a first come, first served basis.

Findlay City Schools is asking everyone to do their part to help ensure that the fall sports seasons don’t get derailed by a jump in coronavirus cases.

Athletic Director Nate Weihrauch says a lot of work has gone into preparing the sports seasons under COVID-19 guidelines.

The governor’s order allowing sports to be played says coaches, volunteers, athletic trainers, and officials must wear a face covering at all times, and players must wear a face covering when not on the field or court of play.

Weihrauch says players and coaches have done a good job adjusting and fans will need to as well.

The limited number of spectators who are allowed to attend games will be required to wear a mask throughout the entire game and family members should be seated together and socially distanced from others.

Weihrauch says ticket information will be sent to each student-athletes family through Final Forms.

On Wednesday, the county’s fourth death from the virus was announced.

Pop-up COVID-19 testing will be held from 10 to 2 on Monday at The Cube on North Main Street in Findlay.

Findlay Brewing Company is joining more than 1,000 breweries across the United States and the world in releasing Black is Beautiful, an imperial stout, on Tuesday, August 25th.

Findlay Brewing Company says more than 1,100 breweries across all 50 states and 21 countries are brewing Black is Beautiful to bring awareness to the injustices people of color face daily and to raise funds for police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged.

Beginning Tuesday, Black is Beautiful will be available for dine-in in FBC’s taproom at 213 East Crawford Street.

64 ounce growlers and 32 ounce crowler cans will be available for takeout as well.

People who have growlers or howlers may bring them in to have filled.

Proceeds from Black is Beautiful at Findlay Brewing Company will be donated to the Black Heritage Library and Multicultural Center in Findlay.

The Interstate 75 reconstruction project was featured on the Ohio Department of Transportation’s weekly video series ‘The Loop’.

ODOT Director Jack Marchbanks was in Findlay recently to celebrate the milestone of the opening of the ramps at State Route 15/U.S. 68.

Interstate 75 is also now in its final traffic pattern.

There is still some paving, striping and other work to be completed and the project in its entirety will be finished in October.

The project reconstructed and widened about five miles of I-75 from just south of the Harrison Street overpass up to the County Road 99 interchange.

Notable features of the project included construction of a third lane in each direction on I-75 and the redesign of the interchange at Lima Avenue with U.S. 68 / State Route 15 into a double roundabout.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be extra focused on removing impaired drivers from the roads over the next few weeks.

The highway patrol’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is underway through Monday, September 7th which is Labor Day.

The patrol is asking drivers to do their part in keeping the roadways safe by following all traffic laws, never driving impaired and always designating a sober driver.

In 2019, there were 13,047 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roads, which resulted in 597 deaths and 8,178 injuries.

In 2019, troopers arrested 22,520 drivers for OVI.

“Our focus is removing impaired drivers from our roadways and educating motorists of the dangers it presents,” said Colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent.

“We take impaired driving seriously and remain dedicated to promoting safety on Ohio’s roadways.”

Drivers are encouraged to dial #677 to report impaired drivers and drug activity to the highway patrol.

You may have seen the signs popping up in front of houses that read ‘A Findlay High School Military Veteran Lives Here’.

The signs were the idea of Roger Powell, the Findlay High School Alumni Director for the past 22 years.

He says it was unfortunate that they had to cancel their annual Findlay High School Military Veterans Recognition Dinner and Program due to the pandemic and he wanted to do something special for the school’s Veterans.

Roger got the go-ahead and the signs were made and this week they started being delivered to Veterans’ homes by members of the baseball and basketball teams.

Roger says Veterans are very appreciative of the signs.

He says, so far, 115 signs have been made.
