Body Identified As Missing Person Blake Olney


Findlay Police have an ID on the body found in a vacant lot in the 200 block of Jefferson Street, the morning of July 4th.

The Lucas County Coroner reports that it is Blake Olney. 21-year-old Olney was reported missing to Findlay Police on June 28th. He was last seen alive in the 300 block of North Main Street, in Findlay early that day.

Anyone with information about the death should contact Findlay police at 419-424-7150.

Findlay Hometown Hero Project To Honor Veterans

The City of Findlay will be recognizing area veterans with banners along Main Street.

“It is our desire to continually recognize the military service members who have given so much of themselves to serve our country,” said Mayor Christina Muryn.

Anyone who would like to see an active, retired or deceased service member recognized with a banner can click here to fill out an application form.

There is a $100 fee for the banner.

There is a box to check if you are unable to afford the fee and would like to be considered for sponsorship.

“This is one small way we can do that and show our communities strong support of those who serve, our country, and our community. I felt this was a great way to utilize a prominent location downtown to recognize individuals in our community that fought to protect our freedoms.”

The banners will be displayed on the downtown light posts at several times during the year like Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Veterans Day.

Rock Hall Of Fame’s Live Induction Ceremony Canceled

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s live induction ceremony for the 2020 honorees has been called off because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials in Cleveland said that instead, the inductees will be honored during a special streamed live on HBO Max on November 7th.

The ceremony was originally planned for Cleveland on May 2nd. It was moved to November 7th because of the pandemic

Anyone who’s already purchased tickets for the in-person event will be issued a refund.

The 2020 class of honorees is Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, the Notorious B.I.G. and T-Rex.

 

Heat Advisory Issued As Heat Index To Eclipse 100

Findlay and Hancock County are included in a Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

The advisory, which goes from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, actually covers the entire state.

Forecasters say the high temp on Thursday will top out at 97 with a heat index of 103.

The high temperatures and humidity can cause heat illnesses to occur.

People are advised to drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting clothing and stay in air-conditioning whenever possible.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle.

Friday is also expected to be in the 90s before we drop back into the 80s on Saturday.

 

Teen Flown From Scene Of Hancock County Crash

A teenager had to be flown from the scene of a crash just outside Findlay.

The crash happened on State Route 37, west of Township Road 233 around 10 o’clock Wednesday morning.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says Timothy M. Lemire, 19, of Arlington, was driving westbound on State Route 37 when he went off the road and hit a utility box and a tree.

Lemire was lifeflighted from the scene to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

The sheriff’s office says Vanlue Fire, Hanco EMS and several citizens assisted at the scene.

 

University Of Toledo Football Player Killed In Shooting

(ONN) – A University of Toledo football player was shot and killed in downtown Toledo.

22-year-old Jahneil Douglas was a junior defensive lineman and a graduate of Start High School in Toledo.

The shooting happened downtown outside Gino’s Pizza around 11:30 Tuesday night.

Detectives say there was a fight outside the restaurant between two men and shots were fired.

Police say casings were found scattered in the parking lot and the restaurant has video surveillance near where the shooting happened.

There is no word on any arrests as of yet.

This is Toledo’s 26th homicide of the year.

The city had 38 homicides last year.

 

2 Injured In Hancock County Crash

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says two people were injured in a crash south of McComb.

It happened at State Route 186 and County Road 97 at around 3:37 Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office says Jesse Weightman, 23, of Leipsic, was driving westbound on County Road 97 when he stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with State Route 186.

The sheriff’s office says Weightman then entered the intersection and failed to yield to a vehicle that was northbound on State Route 186 and the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was Perry Emmitt, 53, of Deshler.

The sheriff’s office says a passenger in Emmitt’s vehicle, Pallas Emmitt, 56, of Deshler, was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital with unknown injuries.

Weightman was also injured and taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital.

The sheriff’s office issued Weightman a citation for failure to yield.

 

AAA Ohio Says Road Trips Reign This Summer

AAA Ohio says road trips will account for 96 percent of summer travel, and will see the smallest decrease in travel volume due to the pandemic of just 3 percent year-over-year.

AAA forecasts a 74 percent decrease in air travel and an 86 percent decrease in rail, cruise ship and bus travel compared to last summer.

AAA Ohio says Ohioans are heading to the Florida Panhandle, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.

But with increased cases of COVID-19 in some places it’s best to know your cancellation policy.

AAA also recommends you do your homework on certain attractions to make sure they are still open.

AAA also reminds people to be fully prepared when taking a road trip, by packing wipes, hand sanitizer and your health insurance cards.

 

Fallen Toledo Police Officer Laid To Rest

Toledo police officer Anthony Dia was laid to rest on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was shot and killed on the 4th of July by an intoxicated man outside a Home Depot.

A memorial and funeral service were held at John F. Savage Arena on the campus of the University of Toledo.

A burial procession took place at noon to Dia’s final resting place at Toledo Memorial Cemetery in Sylvania.

Dia leaves behind a wife and two young sons.

Toledo Police Chief George Kral said Dia’s last words were “118, tell my family I love them.”

A GoFundMe account has been started for Dia’s family and has already raised more than $200,000.

Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn and Police Chief Robert Ring attended Dia’s funeral.

“These are men and women who go out each day to serve our communities and put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” Muryn said.

“And I think it’s important for us to continue to show them support and thanks for everything they do for us.”

 

Governor Issues Face Mask Order For Hardest Hit Counties

(ONN) – Governor DeWine has announced that the Ohio counties that are seeing the highest rates of COVID-19 infection will be under a face-covering order beginning Wednesday.

DeWine said that health commissioners in the seven counties under a level 3 public health emergency alert have asked him to issue the blanket health order.

That will include Butler, Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton, Huron, Montgomery and Trumbull Counties, but that could change as case numbers rise or fall.

Residents of those counties will be required to wear face coverings in all indoor or outdoor shared spaces in which they cannot maintain social distance.

The state recently unveiled a color-coded map to show how bad the pandemic is in each county.

Hancock County is on the yellow level, which is the lowest alert level.
