Ohio’s Memorial Golf Tournament Moved To July

According to Golf Digest, the PGA is moving the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio from early June to the middle of July.

The report comes on the heels of statements last week from Memorial founder Jack Nicklaus, who said it was looking like the coronavirus pandemic would mean the tournament would shift to a later date.

Originally scheduled for June 4th through the 7th, the new date has the Memorial being played from July 16th through the 19th, which would have been when the now canceled British Open was to take place.

Golf Digest is reporting that the PGA has announced a modified schedule that will begin on June 11th with the Charles Schwab Challenge, without any fans in attendance.

State Still Working To Speed Up Unemployment Process

State leaders are stressing that the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is working around the clock to make unemployment benefits available for the hundreds of thousands of Ohioans impacted by COVID-19.

This week, they will add text-to-speech capabilities to be more efficient, introduce voice recognition and bot technology to answer frequently asked questions and add more than 300 people to their staff.

By the end of next week, there will be a virtual call center to speed up wait times, improvements made to the e-application system and launch an online tool for self employed 1099 workers to start the early application process.

New unemployment claims in the state have surpassed 855,000 over the past four weeks.

To put that in perspective, that four week total is more than the 715,000 claims filed during the last two years combined.

Governor Rallying Ohioans To Beat Michigan…On The Census

Michigan can’t beat Ohio State on the football field anymore but they might beat the Buckeye State at something else even more important.

And that’s why Governor DeWine is issuing a challenge to all Ohioans: let’s beat Michigan when it comes to the U.S. Census.

During his COVID-19 update, DeWine says the Buckeye State lags a bit behind Michigan when it comes to completing the 2020 Census forms.

He says it’s important for everyone to take part, since census numbers help determine federal funding for states as well as their number of U.S. Representatives.

Kiwanis Club Of Findlay 100th Anniversary Project

To celebrate their 100th anniversary, the Kiwanis Club of Findlay will be building a park and playground as a gift to the community.

Working in conjunction with the Hancock Historical Museum they decided the facility would be built at the location of the Little Red Schoolhouse on County Road 236.

Rick Kidwell, chair of the 100th anniversary project, says the park will be called Brucklacher Memorial Park.

“We chose that name because the late James Brucklacher was a longtime member of our Kiwanis club and was also one of the founders of the Hancock Historical Museum.”

Rick says they decided on this project because they wanted to do something that would have longevity and that kids would enjoy.

He says the pandemic has pushed the project back a bit and now they hope to break ground in August.

He says one of their fundraisers was canceled because of the pandemic and they’re hoping to have a good turnout at their Purse Bingo fundraiser in the summer.

Anyone wishing to donate to the project can send a donation to the Findlay Kiwanis Foundation, PO Box 237, Findlay, Ohio.

DeWine and his family own the Single-A baseball team the Asheville Tourists in North Carolina and said they don’t expect to be playing before August.

State Suing Man For Price Gouging Face Masks, Other Items

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost says his office is filing charges against a Chagrin Falls man for hoarding medical equipment and then selling it online at a huge markup.

Yost said Mario F. Salwan is accused of selling N95 masks on eBay for nearly 18 times their retail price.

The attorney general said Salwan and unnamed co-conspirators operated an online store where they also price gouged on hand sanitizer and toilet paper.

Yost said his office would continue to take action against anyone in Ohio who tries to take advantage of the public during the pandemic.
