FCS Taking Preventive Measures Against Coronavirus

Findlay City Schools sent a notification to parents about the precautions they’re taking to prevent coronavirus.

The district says its focus, at this time, is on the preventive measures outlined by the CDC.

District buildings are cleaned daily with a CDC-approved disinfectant and “high touch” areas are cleaned and disinfected more frequently.

As always, the district is asking that students and staff stay home if they are ill.

Carmen Brown, Family Consumer Science teacher at Millstream Career Center says she’s been teaching students the importance of being diligent about hand-washing.

She says many students shockingly think if they just hold their hands under running water for a few seconds that’s good enough.

“The only true defense against bacteria is plain old soap and water, washing your hands for 20 seconds in front and back, and don’t forget your nails and in between your fingers.”

Findlay City Schools says it’s in regular contact with Hancock Public Health to receive guidance and stay current on information regarding the spread of the virus.

The district will follow Hancock Public Health’s lead on any quarantines, closures, or other health measures as needed.

(ONN) – Cincinnati-based Kroger, the nation’s largest grocer, is placing limits on the number of certain products that customers buy through its website as people are doing heavy stocking in preparation for any spread of the coronavirus.

Kroger said on its website that due to high demand and to support all customers, it will be limiting the number of sanitization, cold and flu-related products to 5 each per order.

Amazon is warning same-day grocery customers that delivery may be limited.

Target and Walmart are scrambling to replenish shelves with basics like canned goods, toilet paper and other household essentials, but have yet to announce rationing.

Art Van Findlay To Become Rettig Furniture & Mattress

Art Van Furniture has announced that it’s closing all of its corporate stores.

A liquidation sale for those locations will begin on Friday.

However, the franchise location in Findlay will remain open, in fact the owner has big plans in store for the location.

Owner Tony Rettig says they are rebranding the Art Van Findlay location on U.S. 224 into Rettig Furniture & Mattress.

“I’ve been selling furniture in Findlay for almost 39 years now, and I plan to continue to do that for quite some time to come,” Rettig told WFIN News.

Rettig says he’s excited about the rebranding they’re undertaking.

“Art Van had some nice products but I think that when we get done with our rebranding you’ll see a lot of new and exciting things at Rettig Furniture & Mattress.”

Rettig Brothers Furniture became Art Van Findlay in 2014 when Rettig was approached with an opportunity for a standalone franchise.

He encourages people to check out their Facebook page for updates as they go through the rebranding process.

“To all of our faithful customers, we will be open for business as usual.”

He says anyone with furniture on order from Art Van Findlay will have their orders delivered and serviced by Rettig Furniture & Mattress.

Arnold Sports Festival At Odds With City, State Over Attendance

After agreeing to ban spectators from nearly all events associated with this weekend’s Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus due to coronavirus concerns, organizers now say that, while the trade show portion is still canceled, they want spectators to be able to attend the events.

During a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, festival co-founder Jim Lorimer announced that the trade show would remain canceled, but ticketed spectators would be allowed to view all competitions.

The announcement contradicts an earlier statement from Governor Mike DeWine and Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther that only the championship final would be open to the public.

In a letter to Governor DeWine and Mayor Ginther – Arnold Schwarzenegger points out how other events – like March Madness in Cleveland and Dayton – like Cleveland Cavaliers basketball games – how Columbus Blue Jackets hockey games and how Wizard World comic con in Cleveland – are all scheduled to go on as planned. Because of this – the former governor of California wants to move forward with selling tickets for this weekend’s Arnold Sports Festival.

In response, DeWine and Ginther’s offices released a joint statement saying they expect the organizers to honor the original agreement to limit spectators to only the finals.

The statement read, in part:

In the event that organizers fail to comply with our agreement, we stand ready to take appropriate action under Ohio law to protect the health and safety of the residents of the state of Ohio and our guests.

Ohio AG Establishes Robocall Enforcement Unit

(ONN) – Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has announced a new robocall enforcement unit.

The team will be comprised of investigators and attorneys to inspect possible scams people report.

He says the best way to avoid being scammed is to not answer numbers you don’t recognize.

“Part of the reason we don’t want you to answer the phone is because they won’t get to run their scam, but also because when you answer that call you go on a list of people who answer robocalls.”

He says Ohioans received more than two billion robocalls last year.

You can make a report by texting ‘robo’ to the number 888-111 and by visiting ohioprotects.org.

OSU FB Adds 2 First-Time Opponents To Future Schedules

The Ohio State Buckeyes are adding two first-time opponents to its football schedules in 2025 and 2026.

The University announced it had come to an agreement with the University of Connecticut from the American Athletic Conference and Ball State from the MAC for future games at the Horseshoe.

The Buckeyes will host the UConn Huskies in 2025 and The Ball State Cardinals in 2026 with the UConn game to be sandwiched around a pair Big Ten Conference road games at Wisconsin and Rutgers.

The addition of UConn now completes OSU’s 2025 schedule while the 2026 season still has one open date.

The Buckeyes open the 2020 season at home against Bowling Green on September 5th.

Findlay PD Donates Bike To Student In Need

The Findlay Police Department recently stepped in to help a student whose bicycle was stolen.

High School Assistant Principal Meg Simon says the student couldn’t afford to replace the bike so she got ahold of the police department, and without hesitation, they dropped off a bike for the student.

“That’s the great part about our community, is that there are so many people willing to help our kids. That’s the part that’s inspiring to me, is that no matter what the need is there’s always someone willing to help.”

She says the police department is always ready and willing to help out whenever she gets ahold of them.

Arnold Sports Festival Scaled Back Due To Coronavirus

Officials say the annual Arnold Sports Festival will not be canceled but will be scaled back to limit possible exposure to the coronavirus.

Governor Mike DeWine and Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther announced that the competition for athletes would take place as planned, but the trade show and expositions will be canceled.

Ticket holders will still be able to attend the Arnold Classic World Bodybuilding Championship finals since it is held in an arena-style setting, which minimizes the risk of spreading a virus.

Arnold Schwarzenegger says health takes precedence. “We would never choose making money over people’s health,” Arnold said.

Schwarzenegger said he looks forward to seeing everyone at the bodybuilding finals Saturday night.

Columbus Health officials will also be screening athletes attending the event, including when they arrive at John Glenn International Airport.
