Findlay City Schools, Many Others Close Due To Snow

Students in Findlay City Schools have the day off on Tuesday due to the snowy conditions.

The district at first went on a two-hour delay but then decided to close for the entire day.

Many other districts are closed for Tuesday as well, and many others are on a two-hour delay.

Once the snow moves out on Tuesday skies will gradually clear with a high reaching 30.

Marathon Announces Agreement With Elliott Management

Marathon Petroleum Corporation has entered into a cooperation agreement with shareholder and vocal critic Elliott Management as it looks for a replacement for outgoing CEO Gary Heminger.

In October Marathon announced that Chairman and CEO Gary Heminger will be retiring and the company will be spinning off Speedway.

Marathon Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: MPC) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Elliott Management and will appoint Jonathan Z. Cohen to the company’s board of directors, effective Dec. 16, 2019. Mr. Cohen will fill the seat of retiring executive and board member Greg Goff.

Cohen brings broad industry and financial experience to the board, including as a founder and executive of multiple energy-related businesses in the exploration and production, and midstream sectors. Among others, he was co-founder and vice chairman of Atlas Energy, Inc.; co-founder of Atlas Pipeline Partners, LP; and co-founder of the general partner of Arc Logistics Partners LP. Mr. Cohen currently serves as chairman of the board of directors of Falcon Minerals Corporation and previously served on the board of directors of Energen Corp. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Juris Doctor from American University School of Law.

“We are pleased to welcome Jonathan to the MPC board,” said Gary R. Heminger, MPC chairman and chief executive officer. Cohen joins the board with valuable executive leadership experience in the energy and natural resources industry. “We look forward to his contributions as we continue executing on our strategic initiatives,” said Heminger.

Mr. Cohen will serve on the special committee of the MPC board charged with evaluating options for the midstream business, as well as the special committee of the MPC board charged with overseeing the MPC CEO search process, which continues to progress.

Elliott’s Senior Portfolio Manager John Pike and Associate Portfolio Manager Phillip Zeigler commented on Mr. Cohen’s appointment to the board: “We believe Jonathan will be a positive addition to the MPC board and the special committees given his extensive energy experience and financial expertise. We look forward to the continued progress of the company’s ongoing strategic initiatives and think Jonathan will add a valuable perspective to those efforts.”

Additionally, MPC announced today its agreement to the addition of an independent advisor to serve in a non-voting capacity as advisor to the special committee of the MPC board evaluating midstream options. The MPC board expects to provide an update on the work of the special midstream committee in the first quarter of 2020.

As announced on Oct. 31, 2019, MPC intends to separate Speedway into an independent, publicly traded company, creating the largest U.S. listed convenience store operator. In an update, MPC today announced that work on the separation is progressing well and the company is targeting early fourth quarter 2020 for completion of the transaction, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Cameras Set Up To Watch Findlay Crosswalk And Gather Safety Information

There are cameras watching the crosswalk at Sixth Street and Washington in Findlay to see how safe they are.

Findlay safety director Paul Schmelzer explained that the device will help keep an eye on things.

Paul Schmelzer said the cameras are a great resource.

He said this will allow them to determine how safe the crosswalks are and if there are any changes needed without wasting a lot of money.

Police chief John Dunbar said that the cameras haven’t been at the location for very long and there isn’t any data to share yet.

Hancock County Commissioner Brian Robertson Not Running For Re-Election

Hancock County Commissioner Brian Robertson announced on Facebook that he has decided against running for re-election.

According to his post, he saw the position as a way to serve the community and doesn’t want to become a career politician.

He said, ”We must change the culture of career politicians at all levels of government. It should not be a career path but a service opportunity”.

He said that the job was both challenging and rewarding, having to deal with personal and professional attacks but also getting to serve the community.

Commissioner Mark Gazarek also won’t be seeking re-election.

Wednesday marks the last day you can announce running for the open seats.

Findlay City School Board Approves Putting New Operations Levy Before Voters

The Findlay City Schools Board of Education approved putting a new operating levy on the March 2020 ballot.

Treasurer Mike Barnhart said the 5.9 mill levy is estimated to raise about $5 million a year starting in 2021 if passed in March.

He explained that it will cost $206.50 per year for each $100,000 of home value, which comes to just over $17 a month.

This is the first new operating levy since 2004.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Some Counties

A little more snow is in the forecast for Findlay and some other areas are under an advisory.

Forecasters say 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible in Findlay and Hancock County from late Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Then it will gradually become sunny on Tuesday with a high of 34.

Putnam, Allen, Hardin and Wyandot Counties will be under a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 p.m. Monday to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Mixed precipitation of accumulating snow and freezing rain is expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice of around one tenth of an inch are possible.

Slippery road conditions may impact both the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commute.

Shop With A Cop Brightens The Holidays For Many Children

The Findlay Police Department, along with other agencies, brought some early Christmas cheer to a bunch of youngsters by taking them shopping.

Shop With A Cop was held Sunday morning at the Meijer in Findlay.

Sgt. David Hill says officers get just as much out of the experience as the kids do.

“It’s great to walk around and see all the kids with big smiles, and it’s interesting to see all the officers with a smile too,” Hill said.

“The officers have just as much fun as the kids do.”

Sgt. Hill says this is their 18th year doing Shop With A Cop and each year they’re able to help more children thanks to generous donations.

This year they brightened the holidays for around 150 kids.

“They’re usually timid at first, but once we get back to the toys their faces light up and it’s a great feeling.”

Wreaths Across America At Findlay’s Maple Grove Cemetery

Saturday was Wreaths Across America Day, and a lot of people came out to Findlay’s Maple Grove Cemetery to lay wreaths at the graves of local veterans.

“I have relatives that served in various wars, and it’s very important to honor them for all their sacrifices they made for us,” said Ryan, a junior at Findlay High School.

Melissa placed some wreaths with her two sons.

She said she and her sons have participated in the wreath-laying event for three years, and it’s a way to teach them about serving their country and honoring veterans.

Ryan, Melissa and many other people, placed more than 1,100 wreaths during the event.

The mission statement of Wreaths Across America is Remember, Honor, Teach.

HOF Buckeye Earns Master’s Degree, Current Players Graduate

More than a dozen Buckeye football players are among the 57 student-athletes who received their diplomas from The Ohio State University on Sunday.

A total of seventeen members of the Buckeye football program earned degrees, including 13 who are on the roster that won the Big Ten championship and will play in the College Football Playoff semifinal later this month.

Notable among the group are linebacker Tuf Borland, punter Drue Chrisman, wide receiver Austin Mack, and defensive end Jonathan Cooper.

Also receiving a degree on Sunday was OSU Hall of Fame member Mike Doss who earned a Master’s of Business Degree in Operational Excellence.

Ohio BMV Online Check-In Program Expanding

(ONN) – Ohio is expanding an online check-in program aimed at reducing the time people spend waiting in line at the bureau of motor vehicles for services such as license renewals.

Officials say the Get In Line, Online program, which is already in Findlay, will expand statewide over the next six months.

It lets customers check-in online, then arrive at their deputy registrar location within a four-hour window and claim their spot in line.

A pilot project was launched in June in Hancock, Cuyahoga and Franklin Counties.

The first expansion was announced for Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.

Another expansion announcement is planned in Zanesville.
