Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Findlay And Hancock County

Sunday’s 50-degree weather will be a distant memory on Monday as snow and much colder temperatures settle in.

In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that includes Findlay and Hancock County.

The advisory goes from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters say we could get 2 to 4 inches of snow during the day and possibly another one to two inches Monday night.

The high on Monday will be around 35.

And then it gets really cold after that, with a high of only 25 expected on Tuesday and down to 9 Tuesday night.

Liberty Benton Volleyball Team Wins State Title

The Liberty Benton Volleyball team won the Division III State Championship on Saturday afternoon in a thrilling five-set match against Independence.

The Eagles faced some adversity early on when their setter rolled her ankle and had to come out for a few points.

“I know anybody on the bench can step in at any time so a lot of credit to Sydney for stepping in there and until Alissa’s ankle got wrapped,” said Head Coach Julie Todd.

Coach Todd says they’ve been calling themselves a family all season and that’s how they played in the title game.

So how does it feel to bring home that championship trophy?

“It’s just a dream come true,” coach said.

We caught up with outside hitter Isabella Granger after the game as she was hugging family and friends.

She said it really hadn’t sunk in yet that they won the state championship.

We asked her how the team was going to celebrate the big win.

“We’re gonna go to the soccer game and cheer on our other friends,” she said.

Unfortunately, the Liberty Benton Girls Soccer team lost their state title game to Cincinnati Country Day at Columbus Crew Stadium, but it was still a tremendous season for them as well.

The Liberty Benton Football team was taking on Eastwood in the playoffs on Saturday night as well.

Snow In The Forecast Could Mean Snow Plows On The Road

With snow in the forecast on Monday, we talked to Findlay Safety Director Paul Schmelzer about snow removal.

He explained that if it snows they will plow roads that see the most traffic and then move onto residential areas.

He added that people should try to park off the street if they can.

He said you should also take your time and leave earlier to make sure you get to where you need to be on time.

You can always check the forecast on the WFIN weather page.

Gas Aggregation Program Participants To See Lower Rate

Findlay residents who are participating in the city’s natural gas aggregation program will be paying a lower rate over the next three years.

Details are in the following news release from the city:

City of Findlay officials are pleased to announce that they have established a 36-month fixed-rate of $3.635 per Mcf ($0.3635/Ccf) for natural gas for program members which is lower than the current program rate. The new rate will run from December 2019 through the November 2022 billing cycle. Residents and small commercial customers can expect a letter from Volunteer Energy to arrive on or about November 7. The letter will explain the rate, terms, and conditions of the offer. Volunteer Energy recently won a competitive proposal process and will continue as the supplier to the City’s program from December 2019 through November 2022.

Mayor Christina Muryn said, “We are pleased to make this rate available for our residents and small businesses. This is the lowest fixed-rate in the history of our program, and it will give residents price protection and budget stability as we move into the winter months. As before, our program has no early termination fee.”

Mark Burns, President of Independent Energy Consultants, said, “Residents and businesses should carefully read their letter from Volunteer Energy.” Burns added, “Residents who are currently in the program or who receive their gas supply from Columbia Gas of Ohio’s Standard Choice Offer will receive an “opt-out” letter. If they wish to remain in, or be added to, the program, they should simply do nothing and they will automatically receive the new rate.”

Glenn Dempsey, Energy Specialist at Volunteer Energy Services, said, “We are pleased to continue serving the City of Findlay. Residents who are being served by another supplier may join the City’s program by calling Volunteer Energy at 800-977-8374. Residents served by other suppliers are encouraged to review the terms and conditions of their current supplier agreement before enrolling.” Customers wishing to join the program must be in good standing with their bill payment and cannot be part of the utility’s Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP).

The City is pleased to have made this program possible. Residents should contact Volunteer Energy toll free at 1-800-977-8374 if they have any questions.
