Entrance Ramp To Interstate 75 In Findlay Closing

An entrance ramp to Interstate 75 in Findlay will be closing for a short time this week.

The Ohio Department of Transportation says the State Route 12 (West Main Cross Street) entrance ramp to 75 northbound will close overnight Thursday into the early morning hours of Friday.

The closure will allow crews to do some lighting work.

The closure is expected to begin at midnight and last through approximately 4 a.m. Friday.

Traffic will be detoured onto State Route 12, County Road 140 and U.S. 224 back to Interstate 75 northbound.

Tiffin City Council President Dies

The acting mayor of Tiffin has died.

The city announced that Mark Hayes died at his home early Tuesday.

Hayes was the city council president and had been filling in for Mayor Aaron Montz as he visits Japan.

“I am devastated to hear of the tragic passing of Mark Hayes,” Montz said.

“I had the pleasure of working with Mark my entire tenure on council, and he has played a significant role since I was elected as Mayor. I will sorely miss his knowledge, humor, friendship and sage advice.”

Rich Focht, President Pro Tempore, will assume the duties of Mayor until Montz returns on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Flags at City Hall will be flown at half-staff in Hayes’ honor until after his funeral.

Cargo Plane Crashes Near Toledo Express Airport

An investigation is underway into a cargo plane crash near Toledo Express Airport.

Lucas County sheriff’s deputies say the aircraft went down early Wednesday morning on Garden Road.

The plane apparently plowed into a parked semi, causing a fire.

The flight manifest shows there were two people on the plane.

The crash is not affecting operations at the airport, and flights are taking off and arriving as scheduled.

University Of Findlay Students Brings Horse To Campus

(WFIN) – A student at the University of Findlay took advantage of a program to bring her horse to the equestrian program with her.

Brooke Griswold said that having her horse Guinness around helps with training.

Of course, Brooke said having her horse around offers some emotional support as well.

She said that Guinness had a 12-hour ride to get to UF and that he isn’t the only horse students have brought from home.

Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build Kicked Off Saturday

(WFIN) – The Habitat for Humanity build on Payne Avenue in Findlay got underway on Saturday.

Shae Golden is the woman that will be getting the house and said that it hasn’t quite sunk in that it is happening.

Shae told us that she has to put several hundred work hours into the house.

She added the application is thorough and that the entire process start to finish takes about six months.

Findlay Mayor Invites Residents To Participate In Her “Move With The Mayor” Walks

Here’s your chance to get some exercise and have the mayor’s ear at the same time.

Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn is inviting residents to her ‘Move With The Mayor‘ walks.

The city says, during the walks, people will have the opportunity to chat with the mayor about any topics they like with the benefit of being active for 30 minutes.

The first two walks are on Thursday, September 12th and Friday, September 13th.

The Thursday walk will meet at Coffee Amici at 328 South Main Street at 7:30 a.m. and the Friday walk will meet at JK Juices at 117 East Crawford Street at 11:30 a.m.

The city says the Surgeon General has issued a call to action to promote walking and walkable communities to combat heart disease, stroke and other chronic diseases.

Half of U.S. adults have a chronic illness such as heart disease or stroke.

Walking just 30 minutes a day can reduce a person’s risk for heart disease by 40 percent.

Findlay Street Closing For Paving Work

A stretch of a Findlay street will be closing for paving work.

The city’s engineering department says Sixth Street will be closed to through traffic from Park Street to Brookside Drive from Wednesday, September 11 through Friday, September 13th.

Additionally, South Blanchard Street will be closed to through traffic from Second Street to Emory Adams Park for the ongoing water line installation project.

The city says residents and businesses will retain access to their properties.

A detour will be established.

Emory Adams Park will be accessed by using Pearl Street.

Speedway Hiring Hundreds Of Workers For Its Ohio Locations

Speedway is looking to hire 350 employees in Ohio.

Open interviews will be taking place at all their Ohio locations on Wednesday, September 11 from 10 to 3.

Available positions include full and part-time entry-level associates and assistant manager roles.

Findlay Man Sentenced To Jail On Child Porn Charges

A Findlay man has learned how long he’ll be behind bars after pleading guilty to child porn charges.

The Courier is reporting that Robert C. Sams was sentenced to six months in the Hancock County Jail.

The 42-year-old previously pleaded guilty to eight charges of pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor.

The paper is reporting that the sentence is what Sams’ attorney and the assistant county prosecutor recommended to the judge.

Sams will have to register as a Tier II sex offender for the next 25 years.

Ohio Police Officers Honored At White House For Actions During Mass Shooting

The six Dayton police officers who stopped the gunman in the August mass shooting have been awarded the Medal of Valor, the nation’s highest public safety award.

“The light from these intrepid souls defied the darkness and confronted the most sinister danger,” said President Trump at the White House ceremony.

He called the officers “patriots” who showed “character and strength.”

Nine people were killed on that day, but that number could have been much higher had the officers not engaged and stopped the shooter in less than 30 seconds.

President Trump also awarded six civilians who risked their lives during a mass shooting at a Texas Walmart.
