(ONN) – If you’re headed to The Shoe for Ohio State’s season opener Saturday, you’ll notice some changes.

Soda will be served bottomless, with self-service refill stations throughout the stadium.

There will be a DJ on the field level both at pregame and during the game to enhance the environment.

There will be new grab & go beverage and snack stands so you can get back to your seat faster.

And fans will notice improved Wi-Fi that will make social media and texting easier.

The Buckeyes open the season at noon on Saturday against Florida Atlantic.

The City of Findlay has a new assistant fire chief.

Brian Sanders, a 30-year veteran of the department, was sworn in by the mayor.

According to The Courier, Fire Chief Josh Eberle said the position of assistant chief has vacant since the retirement of Tom Jorgenson in 2010.

Eberle said, with the nation in a recession at the time, and uncertainty about the city’s budget, the position was left unfilled.

He says the city is on stable financial footing and now’s the time to bring the position back.

Two battalion chiefs were also sworn in.

Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn got an up-close look at the police department, and other agencies, in action during a ride-along with an officer.

Muryn says she saw quite a bit of action during her ride-along, which went from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday.

“During the time we had a medical call that ended with someone having to be booked, and there was a car accident, and then another individual we had to take to the jail. We stayed busy.”

She says this was her first formal ride-along with the police department and she’s planning one with the fire department and Hanco EMS as well.

The mayor says her biggest takeaway from the ride-along was how well the police department, fire department, Hanco and the sheriff’s office work together when they’re on the same scene.

“Overall I continue to be impressed by our safety services.”

So, did she get to slap the handcuffs on anyone?

“No, I left that to the professionals,” she said laughing.

The Ottawa Police Department says a man was arrested after leading them on a 10-mile pursuit.

The police department says at 12:05 a.m. Saturday a semi driving north on Perry Street at North Defiance Street ignored a traffic control device.

An officer activated his lights and sirens and attempted to pull the semi over.

The police department says the semi was a suspected reckless driver who was initially reported south of Ottawa on State Route 65, where one vehicle was struck.

Police say the semi refused to pull over and the pursuit went about 10 miles before the driver finally stopped on State Route 65 south of Leipsic.

The driver was arrested and taken to jail pending criminal and traffic charges.

The Ottawa Police Department was assisted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Leipsic Police Department, The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Multi-Area Narcotics Unit and Leipsic EMS.

(WFIN) – After heavy rainfall flooded fields and forced farmers from getting their crops in, many are still facing struggles.

Schmiesing adds that listening and having empathy for their struggles will also help them through this difficult time.

She explains that farmers are often overlooked and don’t always ask for help.

(WFIN) – An Ohio Native who claims to have killed over 90 women in the 80’s and 90’s was sentenced for two Ohio murders dating back over thirty years. O-N-N’s Daniel Barnett reports 79-year-old Samuel Little confessed to the crimes.

Little received two sentences of 15 years-to-life for killing Anna Stewart and an unidentified Jane Doe.

He is already serving multiple life sentences for 3 murders in California.

Authorities believe he may be responsible for over 60 more murders.

Some Findlay drivers will have to find another way to get around as a busy intersection closes for two weeks.

The Findlay Engineering Department says beginning on Monday, August 26th the intersection of Blanchard Street and Sixth Street will be closing for two weeks as water line installation work continues in the area.

Blanchard Street will be closed to through traffic from Second Street to Emory Adams Park, while Sixth Street will be closed to traffic from Park Street to Brookside Drive.

The city says residents and businesses will still have access to their properties.

A detour will be set up to take drivers around the closure and to access the park.

Also, West Sandusky Street from Western Avenue to Cory Street will be closed to traffic from Monday, August 26th through Friday, August 30th as crews resurface the road.

The city says to avoid these areas if possible, as short delays are expected during the construction.

A man is behind bars in connection with a counterfeit money ring in Ada.

The Ada Icon is reporting that police executed a search warrant at a North Main Street apartment and found about $50,000 in fake currency.

Police say they also found items believed to have been purchased with counterfeit money.

The tenant wasn’t there but he was later arrested.

Authorities say the execution of the search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into the passing of fake money in the area.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine appears optimistic about getting his gun regulations passed by the state legislature.

“We think we’ve got a very good proposal, we think we’re gonna get very good support from our 2nd amendment friends and think we can get it done,” DeWine said on with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

DeWine wants lawmakers to approve measures that expand background checks for gun buyers and give judges more power to take firearms from people who may be a danger to themselves or others.

He announced those proposals a few days after the mass shooting in Dayton.

Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder says elements of DeWine’s plan will be a tough sell to Republican House members.

The Findlay Rotary Club has announced the nine semifinalists for its 2019 Golden Apple Awards.

Each year, Rotary chooses three teachers from the elementary level, three from the middle school level and three from the high school level to compete for the award.

The finalists will be announced at the annual Golden Apple Awards Dinner on October 16th.

The finalist at each level receives the Golden Apple Award along with a $2,500 cash prize.

They also receive an invitation to join the Golden Apple Academy, a group consisting of all past Golden Apple Award finalists.

At the elementary level, the three semifinalists are: Bridgett Bunn, K-5 Intervention Specialist at Van Buren; Denise Matson, K-5 Physical Education Specialist at Liberty-Benton; and Tom Whipkey, Third and Fourth Grade Teacher at Wilson Vance Intermediate.

At the middle school level, the three semifinalists: Wendi Davis, Director of Instrumental Music Activities grades 5-12 at Cory-Rawson; Kathleen Rayle, Intervention Specialist grades 6-8 at Glenwood Middle School; and David Sorensen, Instrumental Music Instructor at Arlington.

At the high school level, the three semifinalists: Martie Andrews, Intervention Specialist at Findlay; Kris Sherer, Art Teacher at Cory-Rawson; Cassie Van Horn, Instructor at Millstream Career Center, Findlay.
