New Wind Farm Project Breaks Ground In Hardin County

The ground was broken yesterday for the Scioto Ridge Wind Farm in Hardin and Allen Counties. WKTN Radio reports that Innogy Renewables US will put in 75 turbines by the fourth quarter of 2020. This will amount to an investment volume of over $300 million.

Project manager Jason Dagger said that the 250-megawatt project will supply the equivalent of more than 60,000 Ohio homes annually with renewable electricity. He added that the project will also provide over $75 million worth of revenue to local governments, school districts, and landowners for the next 25 years.

Marathon Center For The Performing Arts Gearing Up For Next Season

The Marathon Center for the Performing Arts closed the 2018-2019 season recently. Executive Director Heather Clow said they had a very successful season…

Clow added that they are gearing up the 2019-2020 season. Clow said that they are bringing a famous folk artist.

MCPA will also be bringing in several other musical acts including the Texas Tenors, Puddles’ Pity Party, and the Four Tops to name a few. You can see all of the scheduled programs at mcpa.org.

Car Accident Injures Rawson Woman

06/06/19 – 7:28 A.M.

A Rawson woman was hurt in a single-vehicle crash on Hancock County Road 12 just north of Rawson. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports that 56-year-old Lori Neff was heading south on the road when she went off the right side of the road and into a ditch.

Hanco EMS took Neff to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Findlay Man Indicted In Edith Avenue Shooting

06/06/19 – 6:44 P.M.

A Findlay man was indicted this week in connection to a shooting on Edith Avenue in Findlay. The Hancock County Grand Jury indicted 49-year-old Sean Egler on a charge of felonious assault with a firearm specification. Egler allegedly shot Antonio Cortez on May 21. Hancock County Prosecutor Phil Reigle said Egler and Cortez had “some sort of altercation”.

The shooting happened at Egler’s home.

Free Tire Recycling Day Scheduled For This Saturday

06/06/19 – 5:29 A.M.

Hancock Solid Waste Management District, Marathon, and Cooper Tire and Rubber Company will host a free tire recycling day. You’ll be able to drop tires off from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday at the former county home, now used by the county Educational Services Center and Hancock Public Health.

The event is for Hancock County residents only. The other limitations are posted below:

  • Hancock County residents must be at least 16 years old. Proof of residency will be required.
  • There is a four-tire limit per vehicle.
  • Tires must be 17 inches or less and off the rim.
  • No businesses/commercial or industry tire drop-offs will be allowed.
  • Transporting more than 9 new or used tired in a single vehicle requires an Ohio EPA transporter license

Continental Village Looking To Pass 3 Levies This November

Continental Village Council voted to put three levies on the ballot this November. Fiscal Officer Susan Darby told the Putnam County Sentinel that there are two levies that are expiring. One of those is for 1.7 mills for current expenses for street lights. The other is a 3.0 mill levy for police protection.

The village council wants to renew the 3.0 mill levy for police protection. They have dropped the 1.7 mill levy for street lights to 1.2 mills. They’ve created a third levy for .5 mill for street maintenance and repairs.

McComb Pool Not Scheduled To Open Due To Maintenance Issues

The Village of McComb announced that they will not be opening the pool this summer. The village reports that a replacement pool filter has not been delivered. The village had ordered the filter from Miami Filter in Miami, Florida. The delay has made it so that it would be difficult to have another company install a filter in time to open the pool this summer.

Storms Wreak Havoc Throughout The Listening Area

06/05/19 – 5:34 P.M.

Storms ripped through Northwest Ohio causing tornado scares in several counties. A tornado touched down around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday around Wood and Henry counties. The Henry County EMA Director reported that there was structural damage to a barn as well as power poles which knocked down some powerlines. The Wood County EMA Director reported that there was no damage in Wood County so far.

The storms had caused several tornado sirens to go off in Hancock County as well. residents were urged to take cover for until the threat had passed at 4:30 p.m.

Man Charged With Trying To Murder His Wife And A Child

06/05/19 – 11:13 A.M.

The Hancock County Grand Jury indicted a man who allegedly tried to kill his wife and a child last Sunday. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports that 37-year-old Chad Howard faces 2 counts of attempted murder, a count of aggravated burglary, and a count of abduction.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to 1869 Township Road 136 in Portage Township on Sunday. Howard was allegedly trying to get into the home to murder his wife, Holly Howard, and a minor child. Officers managed to take Howard into custody without any loss of life.

Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative Warns Of New Scam

06/05/19 – 11:02 A.M.

The Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative is warning people about a scam in the area. According to a post on the company’s Facebook page, scammers are calling to claim you have been overcharged. They’ll ask for your private bank account information or a credit card number to provide a refund. Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative says that any overpayments will be paid through a credit balance on your account or through a check in the mail. They will never call and ask for private information.
