It’s National EMS Service Week and we talked to Hanco EMS about the services they provide. Director Rob Martin explained that Hanco EMS does more than just respond to emergencies.

He added that they also work with the youth in the community to talk about emergencies. He added that working in EMS can be stressful with long hours.

Martin added that the best thing people can do to help emergency responders is to pay attention when they are driving. He said that if you can pull over, you should and if not, you should just stop. He said that this will help me get through when they are responding to an emergency.

Kids will be out of school soon but no worries, the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library has plenty for them to do. Executive director Jeff Winkle said that they are all geared up for the SummerREAD program…

Winkle said that the SummerREAD Kickoff will be on June 3 at the library. They will have plenty of games and activities for children to take part in while they get signed up for the program.

The library will also have plenty of events over the summer including things like a teddy bear space camp, a world record juggler, and an interactive movie. You can learn more at www.findlaylibrary.org.

05/22/19 – 3:24 P.M.

A Carey man was killed after being hit by a car while he helped a driver who ran out of gas Tuesday evening. The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office reports that 28-year-old Mikhael Weyer stopped on State Route 15 to help 21-year-old William Kennard of Grove City. 61-year-old Jeffrey Striner of Dublin struck Weyer while he was putting gas in Kennard’s vehicle.

Weyer was pronounced dead at the scene. Kennard and Striner were not injured.

05/22/19 – 2:59 P.M.

Students are finishing up school to enjoy the summer but the work is hardly over for Liberty-Benton. Superintendent Mark Kowalski explained that are working on getting things in order for the building project…

Kowalski added that they will then work through the additional steps through the state. He hopes to have a team in place to work on the project by the beginning of November. He said that he hopes to have the project started and groundbreaking by next spring.

5/22/19 – 5:21 A.M.

Bloomdale residents have a new way to get their mail. The U.S. Postal Service has installed post office boxes behind the village offices at 206 Vine Street. The move comes after the post office in the village closed in March.

Bloomdale residents can pick up their keys for the new boxes at the post office in Fostoria. The mailboxes also have parcel lockers available. Anything too big for the lockers or requiring a signature will still go to the post office in Fostoria.

5/22/19 – 5:11 A.M.

Fostoria is getting ready for a road paving project. City Council held the first reading of a nearly half-million dollar ordinance during their Tuesday meeting. The proposed project would repave Union Street from Jones Road to Elm Street. Mayor Eric Keckler says City Council will study other streets in the community to add to the project. He adds, “we want to be sure we’re paving throughout the town.”

The project needs two more readings and approval from council before it can move forward.

The swimming pool at Riverside Park opens for the summer this Saturday. The pool will be open daily from noon until 7 p.m. Daily admission rates are $2 for kids and $4 for adults. Season passes are also available.

The Findlay Family YMCA runs the pool for the city. This summer they’ve added twin flume water slides and a new picnic shade shelter.

5/22/19 – 5:00 A.M.

Nearly 100 people took advantage of the recent driving under suspension help offered by the Findlay Municipal Court. Director of Court Services Dave Beach says 91 people met with representatives from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Job and Family Services, and insurance companies to get help with their suspended licenses.

Of those who took part, 24 receive SNAP benefits. That means they qualified to have their fees waived. Beach says that saved them a total of more than $14,000. Another 20 people qualified for reductions of more than $9,100.
