ELECTION RESULTS: Muryn Wins Republican Mayoral Nomination

Republican voters in Findlay have nominated Christina Muryn to represent the party in the mayoral race in the November General Election. Muryn took home 46 percent of the vote. She says she is happy with how the campaign went…

County Commissioner Brian Robertson came in second with 30 percent of the vote. Councilwoman Holly Frische took 22 percent of the ballots to come in third.

ELECTION RESULTS: Liberty Benton Building Levy Passes

5/7/19 – 9:34 P.M.

The Liberty Benton school district will build a new pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade facility. Voters in the district approved a 35-year property tax includes that 6.8 mills for construction and another half-mill for continued maintenance of the new building.

Superintendent Mark Kowalski says communication was the key to passing the issue this time around…

66 percent of the ballots cast were in favor of the levy. The issue also pays for renovations at the high school and a new auditorium.

Kowalski believes they’ll start the planning process for a new building in the early fall.

Lockdowns Lifted On Hardin County Schools

05/07/19 – 4:32 P.M.

Hardin County Schools are no longer on a lockdown. Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart placed all of the schools under a lockdown this morning after a male suspect made a vague threat to an unknown school. The suspect allegedly has family in Hardin County. Cory-Rawson was also locked down.

Everhart has since lifted the lockdowns. The schools are no longer in any danger. We’ll have more details as they become available.

Carey Village Council Approves Financing For Wastewater Treatment Plant

5/7/19 – 6:48 A.M.

Carey’s village council has decided how they will finance upgrades for a wastewater treatment plant. Members voted 5-1 Monday in favor of a 25-year loan with a .98 percent interest rate. The lone no vote came from Anthony Fletcher. He favored a 20-year payback period to save on interest payments.

Carey will pay around $488,000 every year under the terms of the loan. Village residents pay a half-percent income tax to fund sewer projects. It generates around $712,000 each year and will build a balance of nearly $6 million by the time the sewer project is done.

New Findlay Police Officer Sworn In

The Findlay Police Department has a new police officer in its ranks today. Mayor Christina Muryn swore in Paul Frey Monday morning.

Frey is a Bluffton University graduate. He recently completed his peace officer training at Rhodes State College in Lima.

Two Findlay Residents Facing Drug Charges

Recently unsealed secret indictments show two Findlay residents are facing drug charges stemming from separate cases.

37-year-old Amanda Fraley faces two counts of trafficking in cocaine for sales that allegedly took place in March of 2018.

34-year-old Lindsay Farias faces two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs for allegedly selling meth in September of 2017. Investigators say one of the alleged sales took place within 100 feet of a juvenile.

Putnam County Woman Pleads Not Guilty In Child Death Case

5/7/19 – 5:16 A.M.

A Putnam County woman has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the death of her son last year. The Lima News reports 25-year-old Jessica McClure is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge as well as four counts of endangering children. McClure remains in jail on a $75,000 bond.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive child at McClure’s Fort Jennings home on November 7th. Ottoville EMS took the child to the Putnam County Ambulatory Center where doctors pronounced the child dead.

Officials have not released the names of the victims in the case.
