Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Starts This Saturday In Hancock County

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive returns to Hancock County this weekend. Jeff Kranz said that United Way volunteers and U.S. Postal carriers will be taking all sorts of items…

All of the items donated will be used to help out locally. The drive will start this Saturday and all you have to do is leave your donations by your mailbox.

Marathon Loses $7 Million In First Quarter

Despite seeing a loss in the first quarter of the year, Marathon posted huge incomes from the retail and Midstream segments. Marathon reported a loss of $7 million for the first three months of the year. That’s down from a $37 million profit last year.

The refining and marketing segment posted an operational loss of $334 million. The retail segment saw an operational profit of $170 million and the Midstream segment posted $908 million. It was nonoperating items, like interest and other financial costs and income taxes, which dragged Marathon Petroleum’s bottom line into the red.

Marathon Merges Midstream Companies

Marathon Petroleum is merging its two midstream companies. A release from the company says that combining MPLX LP and Andeavor Logistics LP represents an equity value of around $9 billion.

In a statement, Marathon CEO Gary Heminger said the move “creates a leading, large-scale, diversified midstream company anchored by fee-based cash flows.” Heminger added, “The combined entity will have an expanded geographic footprint which we believe enhances our long-term growth opportunities and the sustainable cash flow profile of the business.”

Mike Hennigan will remain the president of the combined companies.

Juvenile Injured In Tuesday Crash In Findlay

5/8/19 – 7:27 A.M.

A one-car crash injured a juvenile in Findlay Tuesday afternoon. The incident happened around 4:40 p.m. near 1445 Byal Avenue.

Findlay police officers say the juvenile tried to turn left at the corner of Byal Avenue and Tappan Street, but lost control and hit a tree. The driver went to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Officers cited the juvenile for failure to control and for not having a driver’s license.

Arrest Made In Kenton Walmart Fire Case

5/8/19 – 7:20 A.M.

Police have arrested a man accused of starting a fire in the Kenton Walmart. WKTN Radio reports officers found Caleb Poole in Columbus Tuesday afternoon. He faces an arson charge.

The fire caused an evacuation of the store Monday night. The flames were contained to the women’s clothing section. No one was injured in the incident.

The store remained closed Tuesday.

ELECTION RESULTS: Incumbent Loses Council Seat In Upper Sandusky

5/8/19 – 7:15 A.M.

Tuesday’s primary election saw an incumbent member of Upper Sandusky’s city council lose his seat. There were five Republican candidates for three seats. The top three vote-getters included incumbents Marc Mays and Rick Roberts, as well as challenger Kyle McColley.

That left incumbent William Thorton out of the running, getting only around 10 percent of the vote. Tom Karcher also finished on the outside looking in, getting 12 percent of the ballots cast.

Putnam County Commissioners Review Courthouse Repair Bids

5/8/19 – 6:44 A.M.

The Putnam County Commissioners reviewed bids for courthouse renovations Tuesday. The Lima News reports the county received two bids for the project. Schimoeller Construction of Kalida submitted a bid for just under $1.1 million. NR Lee Restoration of Delphos’ bid came in at a little more than $1.1 million. The commissioners took no action Tuesday.

The planned renovations include replacing the courthouse roof. They’ll also replace the drainage system and fix masonry issues.

ELECTION RESULTS: RTA Sales Tax Passes In Allen County

5/8/19 – 5:33 A.M.

Allen County voters said yes to a sales tax for transportation services Tuesday. A tenth-of-a-percent, 10-year sales tax received 74 percent of the ballots cast. The money raised will provide around $1.2 million per year for the Allen County Regional Transit Authority.

Executive Director Shelia Haney says the RTA wouldn’t have survived without the passage of the sales tax. Terms of federal grants for transit authorities have changed. They required the RTA to raise around $1.2 million to receive another $1.2 million on top of that in grant money.

More Road Work Starts Today In Findlay

5/8/19 – 5:26 A.M.

A few new road projects start today in Findlay. The city says crews will close Hurd Avenue between Lima Avenue and Stadium Drive to through traffic for a curb replacement project.

Elsewhere asphalt paving work is closing East Foulke Avenue from Blanchard Street to Myrtle Avenue and Dayton Avenue between Tiffin and Balsey avenues.
