Color Me Happy Walk And 5K Kicks Off May 18

The Jenelle Hohman Color Me Happy Walk & 5k is next Saturday to help support the NAMI Hancock County. Eric McKee said that this event helps supports the services provided by NAMI.

NAMI provides support for people with mental illnesses and their families. Registration will be at 9 a.m. with the race starting at 10 a.m. at Riverside Park on May 18.

Hancock Public Health Discusses 2018 Health Assessment

Hancock Public Health has gone over the 2018 Health Assessment for the county residents. Health Commissioner Karim Baroudi said that there are three main areas they want to focus on…

All three of these areas saw an increase in 2018. Baroudi explained that Hancock Public Health is currently working on a plan to address these issues. more details on the plan later next month.

Fabco Eyes Possible Expansion In Findlay

A Findlay-manufacturing company is looking into expansion plans. The Findlay City Planning Commission approved a site plan for a more than 82,000 square foot addition to Fabco during their Thursday meeting. Fabco is located at 2500 Fostoria Avenue and makes excavating buckets and backhoe digging teeth.

President Jon Ballinger says he’s not sure when construction could start. Right now they are working on taking bids before they move forward.

Dollar General Store Planned West Of Findlay

5/9/19 – 11:06 A.M.

The Findlay City Planning commission approved site plans for a Dollar General location west of the city during their Thursday meeting. The value chain plans to build the more than 9,000 square foot store at 2050 West Main Cross Street, on a vacant lot west of Thimbleberry Drive.

A representative for Dollar General said they would likely open the store before Thanksgiving. He expects it to employee between 10 to 15 people.

A neighbor who lives across the street from the proposed business raised concerns that homeowners currently on septic systems in that area may have to tie into a sanitary sewer line that will extend to the business.

While the business will be in Liberty Township, it had to get site plan approval from the city since it will tie into a city sewer line.

Owens Community College Graduation Friday Night

5/9/19 – 7:20 A.M.

Owens Community College will hold its spring graduation ceremony tomorrow night. Of the 622 people getting degrees, 67 are from the Findlay campus.

The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Health and Activities Center at the Toledo area Owens campus. BGSU President Rodney Rogers will be the keynote speaker.

Walmart Arson Suspect Used Credit Card To Buy Materials To Start Fire

5/9/19 – 5:26 A.M.

Investigators say a central Ohio man’s actions before a fire at the Walmart in Kenton helped lead to his arrest. Court documents show 26-year-old Caleb Poole of Fredericktown bought Thermoses and a lighter from the same store with a credit card.

Surveillance video shows Poole filled the two containers with gas from a Kenton gas station. He then returned to the store and put toilet paper and hair spray in his shopping cart.

Walmart says the fire cost them around $1 million. That includes damage caused by the sprinkler system. One person received treatment for smoke inhalation.

Putnam County Consolidating Voting Locations Before November Election

5/9/19 – 5:19 A.M.

Putnam County will have six less polling location in November. The Lima News reports the Putnam County Board of Elections approved the changes recently. Director Karen Lammers tells the newspaper they decided to consolidate locations to save money when they bought new voting machines.

Lammers says the new machines will make voting quicker. They’ll use the machines in the upcoming November general election.

Three Findlay Residents Face Drug Trafficking Charges

5/9/19 – 5:13 A.M.

Recently released secret indictments show three Findlay residents are facing drug trafficking charges for their alleged roles in three separate cases.

56-year-old Doran Dixie faces four counts of trafficking in cocaine. The alleged incidents happened in 2018.

54-year-old Robert Trimble faces three counts of trafficking in cocaine for incidents that happened last September.

Prosecutors have charged Jason Powell with a count of trafficking in heroin and a charge of trafficking in a counterfeit controlled substance. The sales allegedly took place in 2017.

Bids Sought To Demolish North Main Street Building

5/9/19 – 5:06 A.M.

Hancock County is advertising for bids to demolish two properties on North Main Street. The buildings in question are at the site of the former Karl Kuhlman body shop and B & T’s Asian Market. The county estimates it will cost around $150,000 to tear down the buildings.

The commissioners will open the bids on May 23rd. The project is part of the effort to reduce damage from future flooding.

FAME Looks TO Help Students Gain Manufacturing Skills

05/18/19 – 6:40 P.M.

Raise the Bar Hancock County, Owen’s Community College, and several manufacturing representatives met for a FAME signing. Raise the Bar executive director Laurie Zydonik explained that the program helps get high school students into manufacturing.

The program allows students to take classes at Owen’s learning about manufacturing sciences. They will also work at a local manufacturer.

Zydonik said that students can apply later this year. You can catch the full interview below.
