Repair Work Taking Place On Putnam County Highways This Week

5/13/19 – 5:00 A.M.

You’ll see some lane restrictions on State Route 613 in parts of Putnam County this week. ODOT says crews are performing pavement repair work on the highway in spots between Hancock County and Paulding County.

Pavement repair work is also taking place on State Route 108 between State Routes 15 and 613. You’ll see lane restrictions in that area as well.

Road Work Projects Continue In Findlay This Week

5/13/19 – 4:53 A.M.

Road work will keep part of a busy Findlay road closed again this week. The city says West Sandusky Street between Cory Street and Western Avenue remains closed in the eastbound direction for curb replacement. You can still use the road in the westbound direction.

Curb replacement projects are also taking place on Summit Street between Lima Street and Lima Avenue, Hurd Avenue between Lima Avenue and Stadium Drive, and Woodworth Drive between Fostoria Avenue and the cul-de-sac.

Elsewhere, East Foulke Avenue is closed between Blanchard Street and the railroad tracks for a repaving project. A paving project is also taking place on Dayton Avenue between Balsey and Tiffin avenues.

Stanford Parkway remains closed for waterline replacement work between Westfield Drive and River Road.

Cooper Tire Sending Tire Experts To Conduct Free Checks At Findlay High School

05/10/19 – 4:30 P.M.

Cooper Tire is sending employees to Findlay High School to provide tire safety checks on cars in the parking lot. This is being done as part of the company’s Tread Wisely program. Experts will measure the inflation pressure and tread depth, and check the overall condition of the tires. They will leave a written assessment of the health of the tires as well as some extra information tire safety from the Tread Wisely program.

The expert will be at Findlay High School on May 16 starting at 2 p.m.

State Legislators Visit Findlay As Part Of 83rd District Tour

05/10/19 – 4:25 P.M.

State Representative Jon Cross led a group of freshmen level legislators on a tour through the 83rd District. He said that these tours help in the decision-making process.

The group toured areas and met with businesses in the district. This includes OneEnergy and Whirlpool in Findlay. Cross said that these tours will continue in other districts as well.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Findlay Post Asking Residents To Join The Light Ohio Blue Campaign

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Findlay Post wants to invite you in celebrating law enforcement. Lt. Matt Crow said that they are asking residents to join the Light Ohio Blue campaign.

Police Week will last until Thursday. You can learn more at the Findlay Hancock County Chamber of Commerce. Crow also invites you to the Hancock County Law Enforcement Memorial on Monday. The event will be at 6 p.m. at the memorial on Romick Parkway

Wyandot County Deputy Shoots At Charging Dog

5/10/19 – 5:31 A.M.

A Wyandot County Sheriff’s Deputy shot a dog while responding to a domestic dispute Wednesday. WKTN radio reports deputies responded to a home in the 5000 block of State Route 53 after learning a father and son had gotten into a fight. During the altercation, the son’s pit bull bit the father in the face.

While deputies were on the scene they ordered the dog confined to the house. However, the dog got out through a window and charged at a deputy, reportedly coming within inches of his face. The dog continued to approach after one shot, leading the deputy to fire two more rounds. One hit the dog in the leg.

Deputies arrested Dustin Sweigard on a charge of domestic violence.

Fostoria Native Writing Book About FBI Influences On Religion

A Fostoria native is writing a book about the relationship between religion, the FBI, and national security. Lerone Martin’s book, “J. Edgar Hoover’s Stained Glass Window: The FBI and Christian America” aims to chronicle efforts by the FBI and clergy members to shape a vision of “Christian America.”

Martin is an associate professor in Religion and Politics at the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics. He graduated from Fostoria High School in 1998.

Martin has also written a book about the role of the phonograph in shaping African American Religion.

Effort Underway To Upgrade Football Locker Rooms In Carey

5/10/19 – 5:14 A.M.

An effort is underway to upgrade locker rooms at Carey’s football stadium. Head Coach Jonathon Mershman presented the idea to the school board during the meeting this week. Mershman says a local family wants to start a fundraiser for the project to honor their son, who died in a car crash in February of 2018.

Zachery Brodman graduated from Carey High School in 2015. Mershman says he is getting input from the community on ways to honor Brodman with the locker room project.

Two Injured In Crash Neat Mount Blanchard Thursday

5/10/19 – 5:05 A.M.

An allegedly drunk driver caused a two-car crash near Mount Blanchard Thursday night. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says 64-year-old John Bond Jr. was driving a pickup truck west on County Road 4 near County Road 193 when he went left of center and hit a car driven by 54-year-old Randall Bouillon on New Riegel. The crash happened around 7:45 p.m.

Hanco EMS took Bouillon and his passenger, 60-year-old Michiko Bouillon, for treatment of unknown injuries.

Bond suffered minor injuries in the crash. Deputies cited him for OVI and a marked lanes violation.

BVHS Earns Energy Efficiency Award

05/09/19 – 4:55 P.M.

AEP Ohio awarded Blanchard Valley Health System the 2019 Energy Efficiency Award. The award recognizes AEP Ohio customers that have done outstanding work in energy efficiency programs. BVHS is one of only three health systems in Ohio to receive this recognition.

BVHS has provided better lighting, greater productivity, and energy cost savings through efficiency programs.
