Findlay City Auditor Elected President Of The North Central Ohio Municipal Finance Officers Association

The City of Findlay Auditor has been elected to a leadership role in an Ohio financial organization. Auditor Jim Staschiak will serve as the president of the North Central Ohio Municipal Finance Officers Association. The organization promotes the exchange of ideas, methods, and information specific to cities and villages in northern Ohio.

Staschiak has been a member of the group since 2011, when he became the City Auditor. His term will begin on April 24.

Mohawk School Bus Involved In Thursday Morning Crash

4/5/19 – 7:20 A.M.

No students were injured in a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus in Wyandot County Thursday morning. The collision involved a Mohawk school bus and happened on State Route 53, just north of Township Highway 11, around 7:10 a.m.

39-year-old Eric Godfrey of rural Tiffin was driving south when he hit the back of a car driven by 29-year-old Sarah Stromack of Lagrange. Stromack’s car then hit the back of a stopped school bus. Godfrey’s car flipped over in the southbound lane of the highway.

Upper Sandusky EMS took Godfrey to Wyandot Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Deputies cited Godfrey for failure to stop in the assured clear distance ahead.

Sunny Farms Landfill Completes Work On Gas Collection System

Sunny Farms Landfill says they have finished work on a gas collection system. The upgrades are in an effort to control bad odors coming from the landfill. A weekly update from the company says 18 new landfill gas extraction wells and 11 perimeter collection pipes are now connected to the landfill gas vacuum system. They finished the work on March 30.

A release from Sunny Farms says construction on more gas collection pipes will continue over the next week. They also plan to install a new extraction well the week of April 15th. That project could allow for the temporary release of some odors according to the company.

Leipsic Earns Economic Development Award

Leipsic recently received recognition for economic development efforts. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the village received the Red Rose Award from the Putnam County Community Improvement Corporation. Every year the group gives the award to a Putnam County community that focuses on business retention and expansion among other community development items.

The CIC recognized Leipsic in part because of the expansion of Pro-Tec Coating. They also cited the opening of the new community center.

Primary Candidates To Speak Next Week

The Republican candidates for mayor and city council-at-large will speak at the party’s monthly luncheon next week. The GOP’s First Friday lunch is normally on the first Friday of the month, but they bumped it back a week this month to accommodate schedules.

The cost to attend is $10 and includes a buffet lunch. It will be at the Dock, behind St. Marks United Methodist Church. The lunch starts at 11:20 a.m. with the program starting 20 minutes later. There’s no cost to only attend the program.

Pandora Creates Agricultural District To Protect Against Lawsuits

Area communities are taking action to avoid lawsuits following Toledo’s passage of the Lake Erie Bill of Rights. The Putnam County Sentinel reports Pandora has established an agricultural district. The district provides protection for farmers against nuisance lawsuits. Ottawa recently made a similar move.

Landowners can qualify for an agricultural district if they have 10 or more acres of land that generates at least $2,500 every year for a three year period.

McComb Village Administrator Stepping Down

McComb is looking for a new village administrator. Kevin Siferd recently submitted a resignation letter to Mayor Chuck Latta. Siferd’s last day will be April 12.

Latta says Siferd’s letter says that it was, “time to move on.” He’s served as the village administrator for 13 years.

McComb Village Council will talk about the issue at their Monday meeting.

Train Collides With Cattle Truck In Putnam County

4/5/19 – 5:01 A.M.

A train hit a semi in Putnam County Thursday afternoon. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says the collision happened between Ottawa and Columbus Grove on County Road O.

A cattle hauler driven by 33-year-old Kyle Shroyer of Danville, Indiana, was driving west on the road when he got stuck. He got out of the truck before a southbound train hit it around 2:15 p.m.

The sheriff’s office says the crash didn’t kill any of the cattle in Shroyer’s truck.

ODOT Talks About Upcoming Projects And I-75

04/04/19 – 6:17 P.M.

ODOT was at the Findlay AAA to talk about summer projects that could affect travel. Project Engineer Robert White said that they have been working hard on I-75.

White explained that they will continue to work on the project this summer and hope to be done by late next year.

ODOT’s Chris Hughes added that this summer there will be several paving projects. The biggest paving project will be on State Route 235.

There will also be some work on State Route 103 west of Arlington. They will be rebuilding the shoulders to widen the road this summer.

Hughes added that they are giving Arlington a break this year and picking up the next phase of the Main Street Project on State Route 68 next year.
