McComb Begins Village Administrator Search

4/9/19 – 5:02 A.M.

The search for a new village administrator has started in McComb. Village council accepted Kevin Siferd’s resignation during their Monday meeting, and wished him well. Siferd recently announced he would step down after 13 years in the role. His last day is Friday.

The deadline for candidates to submit their resumes to the municipal building is April 19th. Mayor Chuck Latta says they have already received several applications.

Findlay City Schools Accepts Over $71,000 Worth Of Grants Frim The Findlay Hancock County Community Foundation

The Findlay City School Board accepted over $71,000 in grants during their Monday meeting. Superintendent Ed Kurt said he feels blessed to have received the grants from the Findlay Hancock County Community Foundation…

Kurt said that majority of this money will go towards literacy efforts…

Other uses for the grants include supporting Millstream Career Center and providing on site teacher and parent training. Kurt said that he feels blessed to have strong community support for the local schools.

Findlay Police Department Receives Reports Of Scam

The Findlay Police Department is warning residents about a scam in the city. An anonymous is calling residents asking for donations for the “Findlay Police Fund”. The Police Department says that this organization does not exist and that they aren’t soliciting donations.

If you receive a similar call, just hang up.

Garden Club To Work On Triangle Gardens In Findlay. Residents Invited To Help

The Men’s and Women’s Garden Club of Findlay invites you to take part in two upcoming projects. The club will be working on the triangle gardens on Tiffin Avenue at the corners of U.S. 12 and 224. They’ll also work o the triangle garden on Crystal Avenue at the corner of Crystal and Blanchard Avenues. The club has maintained those gardens for over 10 years.

There is no fee or formal classes required to take part. You can join the Crystal Avenue project on April 27 and the Tiffin Avenue project on May 18. Both projects will start at 9 a.m.

University Of Findlay Raising Awareness Of Homelessness With Upcoming Box City

The University of Findlay’s Habitat for Humanity campus chapter will be hosting Box City this Saturday. This will be a part of the organization’s international student-affiliated advocacy campaign called “Act! Speak! Build! Week”. The event will educate students and community members on homelessness through various scenarios using cardboard structures. That will take place from 2 – 4 p.m. with a panel of speakers to follow. The students will then stay overnight in their structures.

The event will be on the Cory Street Mall in the center of campus.

State Patrol Highlighting Safety Initiatives In Northwest Ohio

Distracted driving remains a big focus for the State Highway Patrol. Lt. Matt Crow talked about the issue with the Findlay Rotary Club Monday. He says troopers aren’t just looking for electronic distractions…

Crow says if you do get pulled over and get a distracted driving citation added in, you can take an online class to avoid paying the fine for it.

Following three weekend crashes involving motorcycles, Lt. Crow says they’re renewing a focus on motorcycle safety…

Box City Event Coming To The University Of Findlay This Weekend

Voter Registration Deadline Is Today

04/08/19 – 1:13 P.M.

Today marks the deadline for voter registration for the May 7 primary elections. The Hancock County Board of Elections will be open until 9 p.m. to help you get registered. You can also register to vote at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, the Fostoria and Findlay License Bureaus, and the treasurer and auditor offices at the Hancock County Courthouse to name a few.

Wood County Men Arrested Following Alleged Racially-Motivated Assault

4/8/19 – 8:38 A.M.

Two Wood County men are facing charges after they allegedly used racial slurs and then attacked two customers at the Waffle House in Bowling Green last month. Media partner WTOL 11 reports the incident happened on March 31 around 3:30 a.m.

The Bowling Green police department says 22-year-old Jacob Dick of North Baltimore and 21-year-old Zachary Keller of Custar started making racial comments when the victims walked into the restaurant. The men then allegedly attacked the victims after they paid for their meal.

The victims received treatment for various injuries.

Dick and Keller both face charges of felonious assault and ethnic intimidation.

Local Gas Prices Continue To Rise

4/8/19 – 6:50 A.M.

Gas prices continue to climb in the area. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular stands at $2.65 in Findlay today. That’s up 11 cents from last week, and up 17 cents over the last month.

Prices in Ottawa have remained steady. The average price per gallon is $2.54 today. That’s even with where prices were last Monday.

The statewide average has climbed 10 cents over the last week. The average price for a gallon of regular in Ohio is $2.66 today.
