Construction Activities Ramp Up On Fostoria Schools Campus

3/19/19 – 5:33 A.M.

With warmer weather on the horizon, the Fostoria City School construction project will see an increase in activity. That’s the word from Superintendent Andrew Sprang. He told the school board it’s important for students, parents, and staff to drive carefully on the school’s campus as activity starts to ramp up again.

Sprang says people need to watch their speed on school grounds. He added, “I know it might seem like an inconvenience but this was planned out by people who do this for a living so we need to pay attention to them and follow them.”

Sunny Farms Landfill Hires New Engineer To Address Issues

Sunny Farms Landfill in Seneca County has brought in a new person to try and address the bad smells that come from the facility. Media-partner WTOL-11 reports Brian Ezyk (EZ-ick) will serve as the new vice president of environmental compliance and engineering.

A statement from Sunny Farms says Ezyk’s primary job will include “centralizing the company’s engineering expertise and overseeing environmental compliance activities and strategic projects.”

Main Street Repair To Pick Up Again In Arlington Next Year

3/19/19 – 5:19 A.M.

After a summer of road construction, Arlington residents will get a break this year. However, things could pick back up again in 2020. Village Council learned the second phase of renovations to Main Street could start next year.

Street repaving along with curb and sidewalk work will take place on the southern section of Main Street starting in May of 2020.

Village council says they would work to direct truck-traffic around the construction area once work starts again.

Lane Restriction On I-75 Northbound Starts Today

3/19/19 – 5:03 A.M.

A new lane restriction will start on I-75 this morning. ODOT says crews will begin placing a concrete barrier wall between the north and southbound lanes from U.S. 224 to Hancock County Road 99. As a result, they will close one northbound lane in that area for roughly 30 days.

The restriction will start around 7 a.m. today.

Findlay Man Struck By Van While Crossing The Street

03/18/19 – 8:36 P.M.

A Findlay man is in the hospital after being struck by a van in Downtown Findlay. The Findlay Police Department reports that 67-year-old Robert Gephart was walking across South Main Street around 1:12 p.m. with the green light. 49-year-old Shelly Plummer of Perrysburg was turning north onto Main Street from West Lincoln Street and struck Gephart.

Hanco EMS took Gephart to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of head injuries. Police cited Plummer with failure to yield to a pedestrian

Celebrity Basketball Game Kicks Off In Findlay Tuesday

The annual Celebrity Basketball game to raise awareness for developmental disabilities is this Tuesday to support the Blanchard Valley Center for National Developmental Disability Month. The game will feature local celebrities and Special Olympians playing side-by-side. Special Olympics coordinator Melanie Williams said the game is more about abilities rather than disabilities though…

The game is free to attend but there will be various raffles available to raise money for Blanchard Valley Center. The game will be in the Croy Gymnasium at the University of Findlay. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.

Findlay Rotary Club Talks Flood Mitigation

03/18/19 – 8:11 P.M.

The Findlay Rotary Club got an update on flood mitigation during their Monday meeting. Findlay-Hancock County Economic Development director Tim Mayle said the benching project is well underway and they are making plans for the future.

Mayle added that they are also looking at how to improve transportation corridors so people can more easily get through the city in the event there is a flood.

Blanchard River Watershed Solutions president David Blatnik explained that it is important for rural, city, and business groups to come together to tackle flooding.

Blatnik said that they will continue to look at projects to determine their effectiveness across the flood plain.

New Project Supporting Female Vets Up And Running

03/18/19 – 7:37 P.M.

Women Warriors Ohio is a new project that tells the stories of women from Ohio that served in the military. The project idea came from Hancock County Veteran Services Office executive director Nicole Coleman. She said that female veterans often don’t get the recognition that their male counterparts do.

Coleman said that this project is meant to help veteran women find an identity and share their stories. Coleman asked Humans of Findlay author Dave Morrow to help with the project.

Morrow said that they currently have a website where you can view the stories.
