UPDATE: Life Flight Takes One Person To The Hospital Following Wyandot County Crash

An accident in Wyandot County sent one person to the hospital Monday morning. The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office reports the accident happened around 10:25 a.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. 23. 50-year-old Terry Routson of Lima was heading north on 23 when he veered to the right and sideswiped a semi on the berm.

Life Flight took Routson to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima with serious injuries. The driver of the other semi, 35-year-old Yassin Omar of Minneapolis, was not hurt in the crash.

Local Expert Says Naps Are Important

If you got to take a nap on Monday, then you were celebrating National Nap Day. Doctor Daniel Sak from Blanchard Valley Health System said that naps are natural.

Dr. Sak added that short naps are the best for you…

He added that the circadian rhythm will make you want to nap between 1 and 4 p.m., which he says is the best time to do so.

Hancock County 4-H Offering New Program For Kids With Special Needs

Hancock County 4-H is working to become more inclusive for kids with special needs. Hancock County 4-H intern Connor Hovest said that they are working on the 4-H Buddies program.
 
 
She added that buddies and mentors can fill out applications and will be matched based on needs. 4-H Youth development director Cassie Andersen said there will be several options for kids to be involved.

Part Of Logan Avenue To Close In Findlay Later This Month

Residents of Findlay’s Westpark neighborhood will want to plan accordingly as ODOT gets set for another road closure related to the widening of I-75. ODOT says crews will close Logan Avenue between Lima Avenue and Blaine Street on March 25th. The closure should last around two months.

Crews are reconstructing that part of Logan Avenue to match the new alignment of Lima Avenue through the area.

ODOT says the upcoming closure will allow for the final reconstruction of the highway.

Putnam County To Launch Peer Counseling System For People Fighting Opioid Addiction

Putnam County is going to launch a peer-to-peer counseling system for people in recovery from opioid addiction. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the county ADAMHS board has received a state grant to help launch the program.

People struggling with opioid addiction will get coaching from people who have gone through the process. The mentors will also make sure the person they are partnered with is showing up for appointments.

The ADAMHS Board is still working to finish details of the program.

Local Gas Prices Up For Third Straight Week

Local gas prices continue to climb. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.38 today. That’s up 11 cents from last Monday. It marks the third straight week of higher prices.

The statewide average is $2.47 per gallon today. That’s up 12 cents over the last week.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.49 per gallon. That’s a 30 cent jump over the last seven days.

ODOT Plans Guardrail Repair Work In Findlay Area

You’ll want to keep an eye out for repair work on a couple of stretches of I-75 this week. ODOT says they are restricting the northbound lanes of I-75 between State Route 613 and the Wood County line between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. today. Crews will fix guardrails in that area during that time.

ODOT is also performing guardrail repairs in the northbound lanes of I-75 near the State Route 698 overpass, south of Findlay, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.

Tomorrow you’ll see work on the southbound side of the interstate near the State Route 698 overpass. The work will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Japanese Consul General Speaks In Findlay

Japanese companies doing business in northwest Ohio have concerns about worker shortages. Consul General Tsutomu Nakagawa talked about the worker shortage and tariffs in Findlay last week. Nakagawa added that despite those challenges there are still investment opportunities in northwest Ohio.

The Consul General said they also want to collaborate to address the challenges facing future investment in the region. That includes working to attract talented workers.

Nakagawa added that tariffs are hurting Japanese companies in Ohio, and the Ohio economy at large.
