Local Gas Prices Down Over The Last Week

Local gas prices are down as we start a new work week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.29 today. That’s down nine cents since last Monday.

The statewide average is down as well, standing at $2.35 per gallon. That’s a 12 cent decline over the last seven days.

Prices in Ottawa have remained steady over the last week, staying at $2.49 per gallon.

Military Academy Meeting In Findlay Tuesday Night

If you or someone you know has interest in attending one of the United States Military Academies, an informational meeting is coming up tomorrow night in Findlay. Owens Community College is playing host to the session, which will start at 7 p.m.

Students and family members can get nomination forms at the event. They can also meet with representatives of the U.S. Military Academy; the U.S. Naval Academy; the U.S. Air Force Academy; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

McComb Cookie Festival In Need Of Volunteers

The McComb Cookie Festival needs volunteers. Organizers will meet next Wednesday night to see if the festival will continue this year. Committee representatives say community members haven’t shown much interest in the event. Only a few people have come to the last three meetings.

The Cookie Festival meeting will take place on March 27th at 7 p.m. in the municipal building.

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon Kennedy To Speak At Lincoln Day Dinner

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon Kennedy is coming to Findlay next week. She’ll speak at the Hancock County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner on March 25th.

The dinner will take place at the Old Mill Stream Centre at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner starts at 6 p.m.

Waterline Work Scheduled This Week In Findlay

3/18/19 – 5:14 A.M.

A waterline replacement project will close a couple of Findlay streets to through traffic this week. The Findlay Engineering Department says crews will be working on Stanford Parkway from Westfield Drive to River Road and on Summit Street from Lima Avenue to Lima Street.

The city is also reducing Lima Avenue to one lane at times near Summit Street.

Train Hits Car In Findlay

3/18/19 – 5:08 A.M.

A train hit a car in Findlay Sunday night. The Findlay Police Department reports the collision happened in the 300 block of Walnut Street around 9:30 p.m.

Investigators say Chastity Griffin was trying to backup behind a business in the area when she got stuck on the tracks. She got out of the car, where a northbound CSX train hit the vehicle.

Officers arrested Griffin on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The crash closed rail crossings from East Sandusky to George Street while the investigation took place.

Safe Ride Home Offering Free Rides For St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s day is this Sunday and Safe Ride Home will be available to make sure you can get home safely after celebrating. Joe Fenimore explained that the service will pick you up for free and take you home, but that’s it…

The service starts at noon on Saturday and goes until 3 a.m. Sunday. Fenimore asks that you give drivers patience because they run on volunteers and cover all of Hancock County. You can call for a ride at 419-425-3908.

United Way Of Hancock County Gearing Up For Changes

03/15/19 – 12:07 P.M.

The United Way of Hancock County interim CEO has announced that they will be implementing some changes over the next six weeks. Chris Ostrander was selected to fulfill the role following former CEO John Urbanski’s retirement. Ostrander said that he met with partner agency leaders to talk about issues working with the United Way. He said that these leaders wanted the United Way to have better communication, more clarity on and the streamlining of the funding process, and continued community outreach to businesses to improve upon the workplace giving campaign.

Ostrander said that they will change the management process to make United Way easier to do business with. He added that this will improve communication and clearly identify timelines. It will also expand outreach to the business community.
