State Trooper Injured In Weekend Crash

2/19/19 – 5:31 A.M.

A weekend crash injured a State Highway Patrol trooper in Wood County. The patrol says the incident happened on an exit ramp near North Baltimore Sunday night.

Trooper Chris Keifer was investigating a crash on the I-75 southbound exit to Eagleville Road when a car driven by 18-year-old Samuel Estep of Miamisburg went off the right side of the road and hit Keifer.

Mid-County EMS took Keifer to Bowling Green Hospital where he was treated and released.

The patrol says icy conditions and unsafe speeds were factors in the accident. The crash remains under investigation.

University Of Findlay Mourning Death Of Pharmacy Professor

The University of Findlay is mourning the loss of a professor. Bradley Shinn passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday. Dr. Shinn was a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University. He had been a part of the College of Pharmacy since it started 12 years ago.

In a statement, the University said, “Dr. Shinn was committed to inspiring pharmacy students to believe that they can truly make a difference in medication outcomes and the lives of their patients.”

Arlington Council Debates Online Payments For Water Bills

2/19/19 – 5:09 A.M.

Arlington residents might be able to pay their water bills online through the village in the future. Village council talked about the option during their Monday meeting. Arlington Board of Public Affairs Paul Beidelschies says a customer would pay a $3 or $5 fee for each transaction if they offer the service.

Councilman Brian Essinger expressed some concerns about how the accounting process would work.

Council made no decision on the matter Monday.

Monday Night Crash On I-75 South Of Findlay Injures One

2/19/19 – 5:00 A.M.

A Van Wert woman suffered only minor injuries after she lost control of her car and was hit by a semi on I-75 south of Findlay Monday night. The State Highway Patrol says the incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. near the rest areas south of the city.

28-year-old Juli Allenbaugh was driving north on the interstate when she lost control and crossed the median. Her car overturned and slid into the southbound lanes of I-75. A southbound semi driven by 59-year-old John Martin II of Battle Creek Michigan then hit Allenbaugh’s car.

Martin was not hurt. The crash closed the southbound side of the interstate for a few hours.

Cooper Mississippi Plant And United Steelworkers Union Come To Agreement

02/18/19 – 7:41 P.M.

The United Steelworkers Union ratified a new labor agreement at Cooper Tire’s Clarksdale, Mississippi facility. The new agreement will last for four years and covers more than 40 USW members. President of USW Local 556L Joseph Qualls said, ” This is an example of labor and management working together in a positive way to move the Clarksdale facility forward into the future.”

The contract with the USW Local 207L in Findlay expires next February.

Progress Edition Of The Courier Comes Out Friday

02/18/19 – 7:12 P.M.

The Courier’s Progress Edition comes out this Friday and we got a sneak peek at what’s coming up. The Courier’s Lou Wilin said he talked to Findlay/Hancock County Economic Development director Tim Mayle.

Wilin added that he asked about how the county is addressing area issues.

Wilin said that the article also features the Raise The Bar Program and what it has been doing.

Findlay Rotary Club Learns More About The All Hazards Training Center

02/18/19 – 5:28 P.M.

The Findlay Rotary Club got an overview of the University of Findlay’s All Hazards Training Center during their Monday meeting. Executive Director Jeff McGuire explained that the center offers over 60 programs to help both the private and public sectors.

These include training workshops in emergency response, security, and chemical handling to name a few. McGuire added that they tailor each workshop to their clients’ needs.

New Initiative Raising Money To Give Bedding To Findlay Students In Need

02/18/19 – 3:15 P.M.

A Findlay High School senior created an initiative called “Let Findlay Dream” to help students in need get bedding. Maddie Kreinbrink said that she wants to help make sure students have the things they need to get a good nights rest.

Kreinbrink is part of FHS’ Interact Club. She said her advisor brought up that there are students that don’t have bedding. You can donate to the initiative at Findlay High School. You can also reach out to letfindlaydream@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Gas Prices Back Down After Mid-Week Spike

2/18/19 – 6:52 A.M.

After a spike in the middle of last week, gas prices are back down to where they were last Monday. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.12 in Findlay today. That’s the same price we were paying seven days ago.

Ottawa drivers report paying $2.14 per gallon today. That’s down 5 cents from a week ago.

The statewide average is up 8 cents to $2.23 per gallon today.
