The Mt. Blanchard Heart and Soul Committee met on Monday to talk about businesses. Co-coordinator Jackie Porcello said that majority of the people interviewed would like to see a community center open in town.

She added that they also heard that locals would like a coffee shop with WiFi, a pizzeria, and a restaurant to name a few. Porcello said the next step is finding someone to spearhead the projects.

They will have a community summit at the end of March to discuss the progress made and make decisions on what is next.

Bridge Home Health and Hospice is hosting a presentation connecting food with health and your mood for the “Living Through Loss” Series. Bridge Bereavement Coordinator Kristy Beall explained that they will focus on how meals affect chemicals in your body…

Beal added that making a meal for one can be hard…

The presentation is meant for people who have lost a loved one. It will be at the Blanchard Valley Hospital on March 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

02/26/19 – 1:26 P.M.

A garbage truck overturned southeast of Arlington and downed power lines in the area. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident happened around 10:40 a.m. near the Intersection of Madison Township 177 and County Road 150.

The driver apparently fell asleep, drove into a ditch and the truck turned on its side in a field. Ed’s Towing was responding to remove the vehicle.

AEP Ohio reports that the power should be restored to the affected customers by 11 p.m.

02/26/19 – 11:01 A.M.

The Findlay Rotary Club had a successful Pints for Polio event at Findlay Brewing Company. A celebrity server competition at the brewery raised over $4,300 while a local challenge provided an additional $2,500. The group also received a contribution from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to bring the night over the $20,000.

All of the money raised is going to Rotary International’s Polio Plus Program. The program is dedicated to eradicating polio worldwide.

2/26/19 – 7:24 A.M.

The Hancock County Commissioners will give an update on county operations this Friday. They’ll speak at the Hancock County Republican Party’s First Friday Luncheon. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Dock, behind St. Marks United Methodist Church on South Main Street.

There is a $10 charge per person for lunch. Attendance at the program is free. For reservations, call 419-422-5946.

2/26/19 – 7:17 A.M.

An increase in demand for concealed carry licenses has led the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to schedule Saturday hours to process applications. The office will open from 9 a.m. to noon on March 2nd, March 16th, March 30th, and April 6th. Deputies will help applicants on a first-come, first served basis.

If they need extra Saturday hours, the Sheriff’s Office will post them on their Facebook page as well as their own website.

McComb plans to tie this year’s Independence Day fireworks in with the annual Cookie Fest celebration. Village council heard about plans to hold Cookie Fest on July 6th and 7th this year. The village would hold its fireworks display on the night of the 6th.

A public meeting to discuss Cookie Fest plans is set for March 7th at 7 p.m. in the municipal building.

A member of the Putnam County Board of Public Health has kept his job despite an effort to remove him from the position. WLIO-TV reports the Putnam County District Advisory Board voted 16-8 to keep Matthew Herman in his role.

Members of the health board claimed Herman bullied and intimidated leaders of Putnam County Homecare and Hospice. They also say he recorded executive sessions. Herman got a chance to tell his side of the story during a Monday hearing. He was able to provide emails and text messages to defend his case.
