Work Underway To Make Super Bowl Footballs In Ada

Work is underway in northwest Ohio to produce dozens of footballs for Super Bowl 53. The Wilson Sporting Goods factory in Ada is the home of all NFL game balls, including those that will be used by the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams next month in Atlanta. Each leather ball is hand-made with the same methods employees have used since 1955.

Hancock County CVB Offering Grants For Community Events

The Hancock County Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering grant programs to support local events happening this year. The Community Connect Program, Co-Op Advertising Grant, Tourism Development Program and Tourism Growth Program, are available. They are also offering two new programs. The Tournament Builder Program and Rebrand/Annual Program Marketing will be available.

The CVB awarded more than $150,000 to community events last year. They also offer free resources for people working on events.

“Findlay Air Expo and Car Show” Kicking Off In June

The Findlay Airport is hosting the “Findlay Air Expo and Car Show” later this year. Airport Manager Matt McVicker explained that the car show is new this time around.

McVicker said that they won’t let the closure of Lima Avenue stop the event.

The show will be on June 8.

“Dine In The Dark” Raising Funds And Awareness For Lodestar

There will be a special dinner to support Lodestar: Guiding Angels for the Blind. The organization trains seeing-eye dogs for blind children in the area. Founder Melissa Schroeder explained that during “Dine In The Dark” you don’t get to see your dinner.

Schroeder said that the event raises funds

She said that if you buy a ticket you can tell them if you have any dietary restrictions. Tickets are available at lodestaritd.eventbrite.com. The dinner will be at 6 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Building at the University of Findlay on February 9.

Wood County Sheriff Talks About Not Issuing Road Advisories During Winter Storm

The Wood County Sheriff clarified his reasons for not issuing any road advisories during last weekends winter storm. In a release, Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said that he had constant communication with his deputies and the county highway garage. He said that since there weren’t whiteout conditions he did not think it was necessary to issue any advisories.

Wasylyshyn also said that level 1 and 2 advisories are meant to prepare the public for potential road closures. Level 3 would close the roads.

Findlay Gas Prices Continue Downward Trend

1/21/19 – 6:34 A.M.

Local gas prices are down for the most part. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $1.87 today. That’s down 10 cents from last Monday. A month ago we were paying $2.21 per gallon.

The state average stands at $1.95 per gallon. That’s down 8 cents over the last seven days.

Prices in Ottawa are up a nickel from last Monday, standing at $1.99 per gallon today.

Missing Hardin County Man Found Safe

1/21/19 – 5:30 A.M.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office says a man who went missing last week is safe. WLIO-TV in Lima reports authorities confirmed Lucas Fallon was okay late Friday. The Sheriff’s Office had asked for the public’s help in finding him after he didn’t show up at work on Wednesday afternoon.

They did not release any other details about the case.

Time Capsule Discovered In Former St. Wendelin Elementary Building

1/21/19 – 5:23 A.M.

A crew demolishing the former St. Wendelin Elementary School in Fostoria recently made an interesting find. Brad Posey of Posey Excavating says they found a time capsule hidden behind a piece of sandstone trim.

The capsule held newspapers from July 2, 1909, a 1905 Religious Guide and Church Calendar, a postcard with a rendering of the school building, a crucifix, and a small medallion. The capsule also had a letter from Nicholas Altwies that recognized those who helped build the school.

Posey gave the items to parish officials and members of the Fostoria Area Historical Society.
