The winter weather is creating hazardous driving for the area. Snow and drifting snow is contributing to low visibility and slippery conditions. Local sheriff departments have declared roadway and snow emergencies and numerous activities are being cancelled.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a scam in the area in which a man is impersonating an officer. The suspect is calling victims and asking them to pay for warrants with gift cards. The sheriff’s office reports that the man is using a local number.
The office adds that they would never ask for personal financial information or a gift card.
The Department of Aging is urging older Ohioans to prepare for this weekend’s winter storm. The department said to create an emergency kit that contains a battery-operated radio, a flashlight, extra batteries, drinking water, food that can be prepared without electricity, extra blankets and a first aid kit. They also say that you should check medications to ensure you have enough to last through the storm.
If you have an older relative, you’re urged to call them regularly through the storm to make sure they are okay. You should also have a plan in case you can’t reach them.
Findlay based Cooper Tire and Rubber Company will cease production of tires for cars, light trucks, and SUV’s in its United Kingdom factory. The subsidiary reports that the move is geared to help Cooper Tire Europe enhance its competitiveness in the global tire industry. Cooper Tire Europe will get tires for those vehicles from other sites in Cooper’s global; network to meet customer demands.
An estimated 300 positions will be eliminated while production is phased out. The company said these employees will receive appropriate notice, enhanced separation pay, and continued career services.

For example, Starn says they know flood mitigation will be an ongoing issue. What they don’t know is what specific flood issues might arise in five years. Starn says the strategic plan gives the county a good framework to deal with situations like that.
Some of the goals include increasing the rainy day fund to the state maximum, completing the jail expansion and construction of the new juvenile and probate court, and improvement of child welfare in the county.
Each goal contains benchmark numbers and target completion dates. For example, part of the plan includes raising six transportation corridors. The goal for this year is two have to get the engineering done on two of the potential projects.
The plans also include efforts to increase safety and security for Hancock County residents and to retain county employees at a higher rate.
You won’t be able to take recyclable items to Litter Landing on Monday. The facility on East Sandusky Street is closing for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Litter Landing will close at 5 p.m. Sunday and reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
A semi crash near Beaverdam injured a Michigan truck driver Thursday. The State Highway Patrol reports the crash happened on U.S 30, west of I-75, around 4:30 p.m.
36-year-old Adam Mancuso was driving west when he drove off the right side of the road while going around a curve. The truck overturned into a ditch. Beaverdam-Richland Township Fire and EMS took Mancuso to a Lima-area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash closed one lane of traffic for a little while. The trailer had a load of bricks that crews had to remove from the ditch.
The Findlay Fire Department is asking for your help during this weekend’s winter storm. Fire officials want you to remove snow from the area around fire hydrants. They suggest you clear at least three feet around hydrants.
The fire department says delays in getting to hydrants because of snow can slow down their efforts and is a danger to people in the neighborhood.
