Putnam County Paramedic Featured In Documentary About PTSD

A documentary about Post-Traumatic Stress disorder features a Putnam County paramedic. WLIO-TV reports “A New Leash on Life: the K9s for Warriors Story” features Louis Belluomini and his service dog Star. Lima Memorial Hospital screened the movie Monday night for EMS and hospital workers.

The hospital says it was important for EMS workers to see the effects of PTSD because they are subject to it as well.

The documentary chronicles Belluomini and two other veterans and their battles with PTSD, as well as the help they’ve received with their service dogs.

Findlay Woman Injured In Crash On Bright Road

11/20/18 – 5:32 A.M.

A two-car crash injured a Findlay woman Monday afternoon. The Findlay Police Department says the collision happened at the intersection of Bright Road and Croy Drive just before 3 p.m.

36-year-old Clayton Girdler was driving north on Bright Road when he tried to turn left onto Croy Drive. He pulled into the path of a car driven by 50-year-old Lisa Moser of Findlay. Hanco EMS took Girdler’s passenger, 33-year-old Stephanie Sheridan, to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Officers cited Girdler for failure to yield.

Liberty-Benton Pushes Back The Start Of Next School Year

Liberty-Benton will start classes later next school year. The school board voted to start the school year on September 3rd in 2019, one day after Labor Day. To accommodate for the later start, May 29th, 2020 will be the last day of school, four days after Memorial Day.

Fall, winter and spring breaks for next year are November 27th through the 29th, December 23rd to January 1st, and April 10th through the 13th.

Arlington Officials Happy With End Result Of Main Street Reconstruction

It was a long summer in Arlington without the use of part of Main Street, but officials are happy with the finished product. Village council talked about the construction project during a Monday meeting. Councilman Brian Essinger said, “Miller Contracting did an incredible job.” Others praised ODOT for helping fund the construction with grant money.

Construction crews upgraded a section of Main Street from Liberty Street to Buck Run, prompting ODOT to close that section of the street starting in July. The street recently reopened.

Findlay Woman Pleads Guilty In Overdose Case

11/20/18 – 5:10 A.M.

Another Findlay woman has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the overdose death of Danielle Rice earlier this year. 38-year-old Dawn Johns appeared in court Monday to plead guilty to counts of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Investigators say Johns and two other people got rid of Rice’s body after she died from an overdose. A passer-by found Rice along Cass Township Road 215 on February 4th.

The plea deal requires Johns to testify against 44-year-old Anthony Whitaker of Toledo. He allegedly gave Rice the drugs that killed her.

Sentencing is set for January 31st.

Area Motorcycle Clubs Donate Over 20,000 Pounds Of Food To City Mission Of Findlay

The City Mission of Findlay received the support of several area motorcycle clubs that donated food. Executive Director Joy Barger said that the food donation has set the City Mission up for a while.

The group consisted of motorcycle club’s from Findlay, Lima, Kenton, and even Detroit, Michigan. Together they collected over 20,000 pounds of food for the mission.

Congressman Latta Discusses Rural WiFi

U.S. Congressman Bob Latta was on WFIN to talk about bipartisan efforts to get WiFi in rural areas. He said that this is a major need because the technology really helps people and is seeing more and more use.

He explained that these bipartisan conversations could help a lot of people.

Latta said that the committee will continue to have conversations about getting the appropriate structures in place to facilitate WiFi.

Dandelions Could Be The Future Of Tire Production

Researchers from Ohio State University are looking at dandelions from Kazakhstan for tire production. The Courier’s Lou WIlin explains that there is an issue with these rubber producing dandelions though…

The researchers, with the backing of Cooper Tire and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, are looking at ways to treat for weeds without killing the dandelions.

Wilin added that these rubber producing dandelions can’t be implemented right away. He said they are years away from mass producing the dandelions.

Bridge Hospice Offering Wreath Making Events To Help Honor Loved Ones

Bridge Hospice Bereavement Services is offering two wreath making events for those who have lost a loved one. Attendees will make a wreath in honor of loved ones this holiday season. The first event will be from noon to 7 p.m. on November 27 at the Brugeman Lodge in Riverbend Park. The second event will be the following day from 4 – 7 p.m. at Bowling Green Park’s Scout Building in Bowling Green.

Local Gas Prices Continue To Decline

11/19/18 – 8:16 A.M.

Local gas prices are nearly at their lowest point for 2018. GasBuddy.com reports the average price in Findlay is $2.25 per gallon today. That’s down 13 cents from last Monday. Prices haven’t been this low since late February.

However, you might want to fill up now. Patrick DeHaan of Gas Buddy tweeted Sunday night that a bounce in wholesale prices in the Great Lakes region could cause a price hike at some point this week.

Elsewhere, the average price per gallon in Ottawa is $2.30. That’s a nine-cent decline over the last week.

The statewide average is $2.41 per gallon. That’s actually up a penny from last Monday.
