An Ohio Northern University pharmacy professor recently won a national award. Amy Fanous received the Next Generation Pharmacist 2018 Civic Leader award for her efforts to launch the ONU HealthWise mobile clinic. The clinic travels to smaller towns in Hardin County where there is less access to healthcare.
Pharmacists on the bus meet with patients to ask questions, check blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. They also screen for osteoporosis and skin cancer.
Fanous says the mobile clinic is an “innovative practice model for pharmacy.” She adds while there are other mobile clinics in other communities, this is the only one that she knows of that is pharmacist-directed.
