The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging you to use your seatbelt every time you get in a car. With the holiday season coming, more people will be on the road. The Highway Patrol reports that in the last two years, 1,142 people were killed in crashes who were not wearing their safety belts. They add that over 400 lives were saved in Ohio in 2016.
According to Ohio’s 2018 Observational Seatbelt Survey, more than 84% of motorists use their seatbelts. The patrol says that this number is great but needs to go up.
Safety belt violations are a secondary offense but troopers practice zero tolerance enforcement when motorists are stopped.
