One Person Arrested Following Drug Search In Fostoria

10/26/18 – 5:29 A.M.

Members of the Seneca County Drug Task Force-METRICH Enforcement Unit and the Fostoria Police Department made another drug-related arrest Thursday. Officers took 26-year-old Dominique Blakely into custody after they searched a home at 728 Park Avenue. Investigators say they found suspected crack cocaine and suspected cocaine. They also found cash, criminal tools, a gun, and evidence of drug trafficking.

Blakely currently is facing a having weapons under disability charge. He could face more counts once the investigation ends.

Judge Names New Van Buren School Board Member

10/26/18 – 5:22 A.M.

Van Buren’s former athletic director is now the district’s newest school board member. Probate Court Judge Kristen Johnson has picked Scott Grant to fill the board’s open seat. Grant is also an assistant professor of business at the University of Findlay.

The school board held two meetings in September to pick someone to fill the open spot., However, they were divided about who to name. When the vacancy was not filled within 30 days, the matter went to the probate court.

Three Injured In Sixth Street Crash

10/26/18 – 5:11 A.M.

A two-car crash injured three people on Sixth Street in Findlay Thursday afternoon. The collision happened at the intersection of Sixth and Washington Avenue around 4:45 p.m.

67-year-old John Nichols was driving north on Washington. He stopped at the intersection, but then pulled into the path of a car driven by 23-year-old Breana Adams of Findlay. Hanco Ambulance took Nichols and his wife Carolyn to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Adams received treatment at the scene of the crash.

Officers cited Nichols for failure to yield at a stop sign.

West Virginia Arrested In Hancock County With Nearly $70,000 Worth Of Heroin

10/26/18 – 5:04 A.M.

Two West Virginia women are in jail in Hancock County following a drug bust on U.S. 68 in Findlay Thursday. The State Highway Patrol reports troopers found around 400 grams of heroin during a search of the car. The Patrol says the value of the drugs was nearly $70,000.

27-year-old Shaquana Carter and 28-year-old Dawnsha Hughes both face possession of heroin charges.

Troopers pulled over the women around 2:45 a.m. for a marked lanes violation. They called in Hancock County K-9 Officer Sonny, who alerted to the drugs in the van.

Drug Take-Back Day Is Tomorrow

Police departments across northwest Ohio will take unused prescription medications off people’s hands this weekend. The annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Law enforcement agencies launched the program eight years ago to keep drugs out of landfills and the hands of potential abusers. A list of drop-off locations is online at DEAtakeback.com.

World Of Downtown Restaurants Tour Returns To Findlay In Two Weeks

The United Way World of Downtown Restaurant Tour is kicking off in Findlay on November 8. Community Impact Director Heather Heilman said that this allows downtown Findlay restaurants to engage in the United Way campaign.

Heilman said that they have 19 restaurants taking part this year. She added that you can take part by getting one of 300 available passports at Coffee Amici or United Way of Hancock County. The passports cost $25 and the event will be from 5 -9 p.m. on November 8.

Hancock County Commissioners Vote To Impose Quarter Percent Sales Tax

10/25/18 – 7:02 P.M.

The Hancock County Commissioners voted 2 to 1 today to impose a quarter percent sales tax. Commissioner Brian Robertson explained that the money raised by this tax is long overdue.

Commissioner Tim Bechtol voted in favor saying that they can’t continue to struggle with finances.

Bechtol explained that there won’t be any new taxes coming out of this decision. This tax replaces the previous quarter percent tax for flood mitigation.

Commissioner Mark Gazarek said he opposes the tax because he thinks voters should decide taxes, but also because he thinks it could hurt future endeavors.

The tax collection for flood mitigation will end on December 31st with the final payment coming back from the sate in March. The replacement tax will start on January 1.

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Talks About Spending Proposals And Healthcare

10/25/18 – 6:02 P.M.

Ohio gubernatorial candidate Rich Cordray was on WFIN this morning to talk about his campaign. He said that he is the candidate fighting for Ohioan’s healthcare.

Cordray claimed that his opponent Mike DeWine has shown that he does not support healthcare. According to Cordray, DeWine has voted for legislation that would take health care away from Ohioans with pre-existing conditions.

DeWine has claimed that Cordray’s spending proposals will lead to increased taxes. Cordray says this not true.

He explained that he would use budget surpluses to accomplish his goals.

Cordray said that the state had a surplus of over $670 million in the last fiscal year. He said that money can be used to support things like early childhood and workforce development.

He added that if there is another recession, he and DeWine will both have to rethink their spending proposals.

Fishing Without License Leads To Citation For Outstanding Warrant

10/25/18 – 10:48 A.M.

Fishing without a license in Putnam County landed a woman in the Wood County jail over the summer. The State Department of Natural Resources says an officer noticed a woman fishing in the Ottawa Reservoir over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. When he asked for her ID he found she didn’t have a fishing license, and that she also had an outstanding warrant from the Bowling Green Municipal Court.

The ODNR says the woman also failed to appear for her court date in Putnam County. The same officer escorted the woman to court, where she pleaded guilty and paid a $200 fine.
