Resurfacing Projects Continue In Hancock County

9/24/18 – 5:17 A.M.

Several road projects continue in Hancock County this week. ODOT says you’ll see continue to see lane reductions on State Route 568 between Bright Road in Findlay and Carey for resurfacing work. They expect that project to wrap up late this month.

Elsewhere U.S. 68 in Arlington remains closed between Liberty Street and the Buck Run bridge. State Route 330 over State Route 15 in Vanlue also remains closed for bridge deck replacement.

Crews continue to restrict State Route 330 to one lane between North Street in Vanlue and State Route 568 for a resurfacing project. While crews have finished some work in that area, ODOT says they’ve scheduled the bulk of the project for October.

Findlay Duplex Damaged In Weekend Fire

9/24/18 – 5:09 A.M.

Fire damaged a duplex on North Main Street over the weekend. The Findlay Fire Department responded to a home at 508 North Main Street around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. No one was hurt, and the flames caused around $3,000 worth of damage.

The fire remains under investigation. According to neighbors no one currently lives in the apartment. The man living to the attached duplex managed to get out of his home safely.

School Security Levy Meeting Scheduled For Tonight

9/24/18 – 5:03 A.M.

You can learn more about the Findlay City Schools security levy at a meeting tonight. School officials are holding a meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Findlay High School auditorium.

The district is asking voters to pass a five-year, 1.5-mill levy that would generate around $1.2 million per year. The school would use the money to hire police officers and clinical counselors for schools. The money would also pay for safety and security equipment and training.

K-9 Officers, Thermal Imaging Drone Help Find Man Wanted In Putnam County

9/24/18 – 4:51 A.M.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with the Findlay Police Department and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to find a man wanted on an outstanding warrant over the weekend. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says deputies went to 1382 Road Y north of Leipsic around 7 p.m. Saturday. They were looking for 25-year-old Alexander Pardo, who ran into a cornfield.

The Putnam and Hancock County sheriff’s offices along with the Findlay Police Department all used their K-9 officers to help search the field. Deputies also used a drone with a thermal imaging camera to catch Pardo.

Pardo had two outstanding warrants for felony drug charges.

Bluffton Fall Fest Takes Over The Village Tomorrow

09/21/18 – 6:40 P.M.

The Annual Bluffton Fall Festival is this Saturday and it won’t break the bank. The festival features mostly free activities, with the exception for food, beverages, and crafts. If there is a cost associated with something there will be signs.

The event will last almost the whole day and be spread out through various locations in Bluffton. There will be kids activities, horse drawn carriage rides, an antique tractor show, and even a fishing derby to name a few. There will also be a showing of the movie “Hocus Pocus” on the lawn of the Bluffton Family Recreation Complex.

 

17th Annual Fostoria Rail Festival Is This Saturday

09/21/18 – 6:31 P.M.

Train enthusiasts will want to stop in Fostoria this weekend. The 17th Annual Fostoria Rail Festival will be this Saturday and attracts close to 1,000 people. Fostoria Rail Preservation Society’s Ellen Gatrell said that people often travel between the attractions at the festival and the rail park.

You can also take a 45-minute historical bus tour. There will also be vendors available during the festival.

It is $4 to get into the festival but free for children under the age of 10. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Area Churches Coming Together To Celebrate In November

There’s a church program coming to Hancock County in November. The Courier’s Sara Arthurs said that the Revive Ohio event will bring local churches together.

Two Injured In Seneca County Crash

9/21/18 – 5:22 A.M.

A Thursday afternoon crash injured two people north of Bascom. The State Highway Patrol says that the collision happened at the intersection of State Route 635 and County Road 592 around 3 p.m.

56-year-old Ronald Snow of Petrolia, Pennsylvania was driving a semi east on Road 592 when he pulled into the path of a pickup truck pulling a camper and driven by 76-year-old Robert Valle of Gibsonburg.

Bascom EMS took Valle and his passenger, 69-year-old Amelia Valle, to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital for treatment. Troopers cited Snow for failure to yield from a stop sign.

Toledo Woman In Crash Near Van Buren

9/21/18 – 5:12 A.M.

A two-car crash injured one person west of Van Buren Wednesday. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash happened just before 6 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 613 and Allen Township Road 142.

49-year-old Brian Baeder of Fostoria pulled out from a stop sign on Road 142 and into the path of a westbound car driven by 57-year-old Barbara Shklar of Toledo.

Schklar went to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. Deputies cited Baeder for failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign.
