Hancock Public Health Handling Inspections Of The Hancock County Landfill

The Hancock County Commissioners approved a resolution to have Hancock Public Health handle statutory inspections at the Hancock County Landfill. Hancock Public Health will handle monthly inspections of the landfill and do an annual inspection of the facility’s vehicles. They’ve handled the inspections for several years.

The Commissioners also approved increasing the pay for this service from $25,000 to $30,000.

Two Findlay Residents Injured In Two Car Crash

09/25/18 – 10:22 A.M.

A two-car crash injured two Findlay residents yesterday afternoon. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident happened around 5:10 p.m. on State Route 568 at the intersection with Township Road 234. 20-year-old Jacob Murray was heading west on 568. He rear-ended 40-year-old Kortney McClellan, who was slowing down for traffic.

Hanco EMS took Murray to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. McClellan was treated at the scene. The Emergency Management Agency responded because one of the cars leaked oil into the Blanchard River.

University of Findlay Offering Scholarship For People Working In Hancock County

The University of Findlay has a scholarship available for people who work for Hancock County-based businesses and want a master’s degree. The Hancock County Graduate Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship for select master’s programs. This includes applied security and analytics, business administration, and education to name a few.

In order to apply, you must be a new graduate student, meet the acceptance criteria, and provide proof of employment in Hancock County. You must apply by March 1 of next year.

Findlay City Schools Addresses Concerns Over Upcoming Levy

Findlay City Schools held a public forum to discuss the safety and security levy that is on the ballot this November. There were some questions as to why the district is using a property tax over income or sales taxes. FCS Treasurer Mike Barnhart explained that a property tax will get money from businesses.

Barnhart said that with how the legislation is written, an income tax would solely affect the people who live in the district and not the businesses. He added that the legislation won’t allow the school district to go for a sales tax.

The levy will help support school security by upgrading technology, hiring resource officers, and offering mental health services for at-risk students.

Flag City Honor Flight Taking Place Next Tuesday

Flag City Honor Flight will be taking it’s second and final flight for 2018 next week. The flight will be next Tuesday. They are taking 79 veterans, including over 20 World War II veterans plus all of their guardians to Washington D.C. The veterans will get to visit war memorials and see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The veterans will leave The Cube in Findlay at 4:30 a.m. with an escort by the Findlay Police, Hancock County Sheriff, and Legion Riders. They will eat breakfast and leave on a charter jet at 8 a.m.

They will return at around 9:45 p.m. with a welcome home ceremony.

Shareholders Of Marathon And Andeavor Approve Of Purchase Agreement

Shareholders of both Marathon Petroleum Corporation and Andeavor voted in favor for Marathon to buy Andeavor. The deal is worth $23.3 billion. Marathon Petroleum shareholders approved the issuance of shares of Marathon Petroleum common stock. Andeavor shareholders approved the adoption of the previously announced agreement and purchase plan.

The deal is expected to close on October 1. It will form the largest refiner in the United States and the fifth largest worldwide.

Habitat For Humanity And Thrivent Financial Partner For Findlay Build

The Habitat for Humanity of Findlay/Hancock County is partnering with a local company for a build. Thrivent Financial is joining Habitat for Building on Faith 2018. Employees and volunteers will work alongside homeowners on affordable housing needs.

The project started on Monday and is scheduled to finish on October 7. The work is being done on a new building for the Willford Family.

Event Aims To Help People Get Their Drivers Licenses’ Reinstated

The court is meeting with people from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. They are waiving a $60 court fee during that time, but you might still have to pay for things like high-risk insurance and any other BMV fees.

Judge Miller and Judge Hackenberg both say they decided to move forward with this project after the success of safe surrender day.

Local Gas Prices Up Slightly From Last Week

Gas prices in Findlay are higher as we start the new week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.78. That’s up six cents from last Monday, but down from last week’s high of $2.92 per gallon.

The statewide average is up a penny, currently standing at $2.79 per gallon.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.79 per gallon today. That’s down five cents from last Monday.

Several Road Projects Continue In Findlay This Week

9/24/18 – 5:31 A.M.

You’ll see plenty of orange barrels around Findlay this week. The city has work scheduled on several roads. A curb replacement project will close West Sandusky Street from Main to Cory streets.

Resurfacing work continues on Summit Street between Lima Avenue and Stadium Drive, Ventura Drive from County Road 99 to Main Street, and Milton Avenue between Bernard and Hull avenues.

Crews are working on storm sewers on Midland and Allen avenues between Blanchard Street and the railroad tracks. There is also a storm sewer replacement project taking place on George Street between Crystal Avenue and the railroad tracks, as well as on North Blanchard Street between Crystal and Trenton avenues. You’ll also see storm sewer work on Garfield Avenue from Crystal to the railroad tracks.

The city is closing roads for waterline work on Concord Court from Parkside Place to Vincent Street and Woodworth Drive between Fostoria Avenue and Glen Meadow. Waterline installation is also taking place on West Sandusky Street from Dold Drive to Harrison Street.
