Liberty Township Fire Department Awarded $11,000 Grant From Ohio BWC

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation awarded a grant to the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department. According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, the grant is worth $11,000. It will help pay for firefighter gloves and hoods to help keep contaminants off critical areas. It will also help the department get an extractor washer to clean off the firefighter gear.

Housing Authority Opens Waiting List For Veterans And The Disabled

The Hancock Metropolitan Housing Authority is opening its rental assistance waiting list for veterans and the disabled. The waiting list will open up at 8:30 a.m. on September 10. To qualify you must be a veteran that wasn’t dishonorably discharged or a non-elderly disabled person.

There Were Fewer Fatal Accidents Over The Holiday Compared To Last Year

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that there were fewer fatal car accidents over the Labor Day Weekend. The patrol said there were 11 fatal crashes resulting in 11 deaths. That’s down from 22 fatal crashes claiming 24 lives in 2017. Alcohol was a contributing factor to at least two of this year’s fatalities.

Troopers arrested 894 drivers for OVI and issued over 7,000 safety belt citations. Both of these are higher than they were 2017.

Dog Pawlooza Event Kicking Off This Saturday In Riverbend Park

The Hancock County Humane Society’s annual Dog Pawlooza is coming up this weekend at Riverbend Park in Findlay. Director of Operations Paula Krugh explained that this is a major source of funding for the local shelter.

Krugh added that there will be plenty of dog breeds to see and interact with. There will also be food, games, and K9 demonstrations among the entertainment.

Kennel Supervisor Natalie Reffitt added that the dogs there will get to do some lure training.

Reffitt said that any dog is allowed to take part. It only costs $10 to participate in the day’s activities.

The Dog Pawlooza will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Riverbend Park.

Bowling Green Stabbing Incident Under Investigation

Police in Bowling Green are investigating an early morning stabbing near the downtown area. Media partner WTOL-11 reports the incident happened at 132 East Court Street. One person went to the hospital, their condition is unknown at this time.

North Baltimore Gets Large Grant For Improvement Projects

A grant will help pay for street and park improvements in North Baltimore. Village Administrator Allyson Murray announced the village is getting a $452,000 Neighborhood Revitalization Grant during Tuesday’s council meeting.

North Baltimore will use the money to repair part of Walnut Street and all of Parkview. They’ll also upgrade the former Whistle Stop parking lot.

The money will also help make improvements to a shelterhouse at the park. The village also plans to add parking in the park as well.

Carey Temporarily Tables Meter Reading Ordinance

Carey’s council tabled an emergency ordinance to pay for the installation of automated meter reading systems for water and electrical service. However, council tabled the measure only because they didn’t have enough members in attendance to pass the ordinance on an emergency. Four council members were absent from Tuesday’s meeting.

Carey plans to play more than $879,000 for the project. They’ve scheduled a special meeting for Monday night to approve the ordinance.

Officials Seize 114 Pot Plants In Wyandot County

9/5/18 – 7:24 A.M.

Law enforcement recently seized 114 marijuana plants from several locations around Wyandot County. The sheriff’s office says several agencies collaborated on the effort. Two people are facing felony charges while three others are facing misdemeanor charges. Officials haven’t publicly identified the suspects pending the official filing of charges.

BCI used a State Highway Patrol helicopter to fly over fields in Wyandot County and find the plants. Officials found the plants in cornfields and close to homes.
