Work Scheduled On Hancock County Roads This Week

8/28/18 – 5:29 A.M.

Construction crews are busy working on roads in Hancock County this week. The county engineer’s office says widening work continues on Madison Township Road 68 and Blanchard Township Road 121.

You’ll also see paving work on Van Buren Township Roads 27 and 29 today.

The construction may cause temporary closures in those areas throughout the week.

United Way Of Hancock County Names Campaign Cabinet

The United Way of Hancock County has announced the campaign cabinet for this year’s fundraiser. Cooper Tire & Rubber’s Ginger Jones will serve as the campaign chairwoman. Jones is a senior vice president with the tire maker.

The official United Way fundraising kickoff is coming up on September 20. It will feature a 5K run/walk at the Hancock County Fairgrounds in the morning and a kickball tournament at the Cube that evening. The tourney will have teams from 16 local businesses. It will also have a kids zone and other features.

University Of Findlay Awarded Grant To Promote Diversity

08/27/18 – 8:15 P.M.

The University of Findlay’s Buford Center for Diversity and Service received a grant for ‘cultural humility’ projects. The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation awarded the center $13,400. The money will help pair 10 UF students with community nonprofits and coalitions for an 8-month endeavor.

Students that are selected will help bring diversity and inclusion to the organizations they are partnered with.

Congressman Bob Latta Returns To Findlay

U.S. Congressman Bob Latta stopped back in Findlay Monday to address the Findlay Rotary Club. He explained that there needs to be more done to make people employable.

Latta said that Congress has passed a bill that gives more power to state and local governments to handle job training. He said that this helps remove some of the barricades set up by the federal government. It also allows local areas to handle employment and job training in the way that best suits them.

Latta also talked about advances in the automotive technology industry. He said that it is important for the United States to continue making advances such as autonomous vehicles.

Latta said that this is a trillion dollar industry and it is important to make sure that it starts here. He added that it will help create jobs and bring mobility to the lives of people that need it.

Five Injured In Two Car Crash Sunday

08/27/18 – 6:12 P.M.

Five people were injured in a two-car crash near Beaverdam Sunday. The State Highway Patrol Lima Post reports that the accident happened around 12:15 p.m. on Lincoln Highway. 42-year-old Joel Steinmetz of Bluffton was heading east on the highway. 44-year-old Monica Nystrom of Bellaire, Michigan was also heading east when she tried to pass within an intersection and hit Steinmetz’s car.

Joel Steinmetz sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. Teri Steinmetz was ejected from the car but is in stable condition. Bluffton EMS also took two children in the car to Mercy Health St. Rita’s. They were later transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where they are in critical but stable condition.

Nystrom suffered minor injuries. Troopers suspect that she was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The crash remains under investigation.

Gas Prices Up In Findlay Compared To Last Monday

8/27/18 – 7:42 A.M.

Gas prices in Findlay are higher than they were a week ago. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.85 today. That’s up 17 cents from last Monday. A month ago we were paying the same amount.

Drivers in Ottawa are paying far less, with an average of $2.60 per gallon today. That’s down four cents from last week.

The statewide average is $2.83 per gallon, an increase of 10 cents from last Monday.

Findlay Bicyclist Injured In Collision With Car

8/27/18 – 7:27 A.M.

A collision between a car and a bike injured a Findlay woman over the weekend. The Findlay Police Department says the crash happened at the intersection of North Main and George streets around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

28-year-old Brandi Hale was riding her bike on the sidewalk when she rode in front of a car driven by 49-year-old Michael Johnson of Findlay. Johnson was trying to turn on to Main Street.

Hanco EMS took Hale to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. Police cited her for failure to obey a traffic control device.

One Person Injured In Three Car Crash

8/27/18 – 7:19 A.M.

A three-car crash injured one person in Findlay over the weekend. The Findlay Police Department says the collision happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Tiffin Avenue and H Street.

23-year-old Anijah Peterson of Findlay was driving east when she hit the back of a car driven by 21-year-old Delaney Haas of Wadsworth. Haas had stopped behind a car driven by 70-year-old Roger Thomas of Findlay, who had slowed down to turn left.

Hanco EMS took Peterson to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of a leg injury. Police cited her for an assured clear distance ahead violation and for driving with a suspended license.
