Roadwork Continues On Two Findlay Streets

8/6/18 – 5:29 A.M.

Two roadwork projects continue in Findlay this week. The city says work continues on South Main Street between Lima and Sixth streets. Crews are performing pavement and curb work in the area.

Crews will also close Fishlock Avenue to through traffic between Sandusky Street and Blanchard Avenue. Fishlock is a one-way street to the south during non-work hours while the project continues.

One New Road Project Starts In Hancock County This Week

One new road project starts in Hancock County this week. ODOT says crews will reduce State Route 103 between Bluffton and State Route 698 for a chip seal project for two days starting today.

Elsewhere, U.S. 68 in Arlington remains closed between Liberty Street and the Buck Run bridge. State Route 330 over State Route 15 in Vanlue also remains closed for bridge deck replacement.

Three Hurt In Sunday Crash Near Vanlue

8/6/18 – 5:13 A.M.

A two-car crash injured three people near Vanlue Sunday. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports the collision happened just after 3 p.m. on State Route 15.

26-year-old Ariel Bailey of Vanlue was driving north on Amanda Township Road 198 when she tried to cross Route 15 and hit a car driven by 58-year-old Gerald Saunders of Westerville. Bailey, Saunders, and a passenger in Saunder’s car all went to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Deputies cited Bailey for failure to yield the right of way and a seat belt violation.

Findlay Man Facing Charges For June Crash On I-75

8/6/18 – 5:05 A.M.

A Findlay man is facing charges stemming from a June crash on I-75 in Wood County that killed an unborn child. The Sentinel-Tribune reports Eric Ramirez will face counts of reckless operation and failure to wear a seatbelt stemming from the June 6 crash near Cygnet.

The State Highway Patrol says Ramirez was driving north on the interstate when he lost control and hit another car driven by Maria Simon. A passenger in Ramirez’s car, Lori Cox, lost her unborn child in the collision. Simon, her husband, and her mother all suffered injuries. Simon told the Sentinel-Tribune that her mother is now paralyzed from the neck down.

You Can Take Free Online Courses Using Your Library Card

The Findlay Hancock County Public Library is now offering classes through Lynda.com. Library director Jeff Winkle said that the classes cover a large variety of subjects.

Winkle explained that some of these courses are huge.

Some of the classes will also get you certifications. You can access the classes through lynda.com or on the library website. All you need to log in is an Ohio library card.

Winkle said that this is part of a program being enacted statewide.

Findlay K9 Awarded Protective Vest

08/03/18 – 2:34 P.M.

A Findlay Police Department K9 will be a little safer while on the job. The Findlay Police Department reports that they received a bullet and stab protective vest for K9 Deke. The vest is a donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The American Legion, Ralph D. Cole, Post 3 in Findlay sponsored the vest.

The donation to provide a vest to a law enforcement K9 is $950. Each vest costs between $1,700 and $2,200. You can see a picture of Deke in his new vest on our website.

Putnam County Collecting School Supplies During “Stuff The Bus” Event

08/03/18 – 2:22 P.M.

The United Way of Putnam County will be collecting school supplies today and tomorrow for children in need. A “Stuff the Bus” will be held until 7 p.m. tonight and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow in front of the Ottawa Walmart. The community is invited to bring donations of school supplies or cash to the bus.

There will be a giveaway August 13 at the Putnam County Educational Services Center. Families interested in the free school supplies must fill out a referral form from their school or at Putnam County Jobs and Family Services.

The Christian Clearing House Will Give Away School Supplies Starting Early Next Week

08/03/18 – 2:11 P.M.

The Christian Clearing House is going to be giving away school supplies to children in Hancock County next week. Executive Director Tammy Stahl said that many of the supplies will be coming from Stuff the Bus.

Stahl said that they asked the community for extra donations and now have over 1,000 backpacks and extra supplies. They will start giving the items away to registered children on Monday. Stahl said that kids that aren’t registered can come in Wednesday but there are some requirements.

Stahl added that you will need to bring the child’s social security card as well.

The pickup will be at The Family Center. Pickup will start at 8 a.m. on Monday.
