Findlay Man Hurt In Crash With City Truck

08/15/18 – 4:41 P.M.

A Findlay man was hurt after rear-ending a city water department truck Wednesday morning. The Findlay Police Department reports that the accident happened around 10 a.m. on North Blanchard Street. 71-year-old William Sanford was heading north on North Blanchard Street when a City of Findlay Water Department truck driven by 27-year-old Cameron Freed stopped for traffic. Sanford was unable to stop in time and hit the back of the truck.

Hanco EMS took Sanford to Blanchard Valley Hospital for a minor knee injury. Police cited him for failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead.

UPDATE: Part Of Lima Avenue Closing Saturday

Update – 11:41 A.M.

You’ll want to avoid Lima Avenue near Cooper Tire & Rubber Saturday. The city of Findlay says construction crews will close the road between Western Avenue and Lake Cascades Parkway from 6 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Cooper is making an electrical upgrade and needs to use Lima Avenue for a crane to move equipment.

They originally planned to do the work on Thursday.

Ohio BMV Systems Down

You should call ahead if you have business at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles today. A post on the office’s Facebook page says a statewide network outage has shut down all BMV systems. So far there’s no word on what’s causing the outage.

McComb Teen Reported Missing

The McComb Police Department is asking for your help in bringing home a missing teenager. No one has seen 16-year-old Xavier Terry since July 31. The McComb Police Department confirms that Terry was still missing as of Wednesday morning.

Terry is white and has a tattoo of a dagger on his left arm that reads “Layla.” A missing persons flier says there is a reward for any information that leads to finding him.

No other details about his disappearance are available.

Findlay City School Board Approves Contract With Teachers

Teachers in the Findlay City School district have a new contract. The school board approved a one-year deal with the teacher’s association Wednesday morning…

Superintendent Ed Kurt says the insurance plans include a traditional plan and a health savings account option. The deal also includes a 1 percent raise for teachers.

Kurt says they opted for a one-year deal due to the district’s current financial situation…

The deal also extends class periods in the middle schools from 40 minutes to 43 minutes. Kurt says that adds up to around nine extra hours of instruction every school year.

Woman Charged In Connection To Fatal Crash Near Fostoria

A Dublin woman faces a vehicular manslaughter charge for a crash near Fostoria earlier this year. The Advertiser-Tribune reports 22-year-old Brianna Redd went left of center on State Route 199 on April 17 and hit an SUV driven by 42-year-old Sarah Hottenstein of Fostoria. The collision took the life of Hottenstein’s passenger, 27-year-old Shawn Brennan of Bowling Green.

Brennan was on his way to student-teach in Fostoria.

Redd has a court date on August 28. Vehicular manslaughter is a second-degree misdemeanor.

Paving Work Taking Place On Several Roads In Hancock County

8/15/18 – 5:24 A.M.

You’ll see paving work continue through the end of next week on several roads in the county. The Hancock County Engineer’s Office says work is affecting traffic patterns today on Biglick Township Road 209. Crews will work on Hancock County Road 252 tomorrow and Friday. Repaving work also takes place on Marion Township Road 202 Friday.

Over the weekend, you’ll see repaving taking place on Van Buren Township Roads 27 and 29.

Work continues on August 23 and 24 on Washington Township Road 218.

Rental Fees Going Up For Two Hancock County Park Facilities

You’ll pay more to rent facilities in a couple of Hancock County parks starting today. On Tuesday, the Hancock Park District board approved raising rental fees and deposits for the Brugeman Lodge at the Riverbend Recreation Area, and for the Activity Barn at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. Park District director Gary Pruitt listed higher operating and maintenance costs as one reason for the increases. He also said higher fees would discourage “noncompliance and damage.”

The board approved a fee increase of $75 for Brugeman Lodge for weekday use. The price went from $250 to $325, for rental Monday through Thursday. The deposit is now $250. Weekend and holiday use increased by $150, from $500 to $650.

The Activity Barn weekday rental fee is now $50 more, going from $150 to $200. The new weekend and holiday rate will be $400. The refundable deposit will increase $200, from $50 to $250.

Findlay Man Facing Workers’ Compensation Fraud Charges

8/15/18 – 4:53 A.M.

A Findlay man is facing three counts of workers’ compensation fraud. The Hancock County grand jury indicted 60-year-old Rodney Ashcraft Tuesday. He faces two fourth-degree counts that allege fraud between $7,500 and $150,000. Ashcraft also faces one fifth-degree count that alleges fraud of between $1,000 and $7,500.

Investigators say the alleged fraud took place between July 1 of 2015 and June 30 of this year.
