Firefighters Called Out To Ottawa House Fire

07/06/18 – 5:12 A.M.

Multiple crews were called out last night for a house fire in Putnam County. WLIO reports that Putnam County Dispatch called for Ottawa, Columbus Grove, Glandorf, and Leipsic crews around 8:10 p.m.

The fire was at a house in the 700 block of South Oak Street in Ottawa. So far there’s no word on occupants and their conditions.

We’ll provide more details when available.

Wrong Way Driver On I-75 Injures 2

07/06/18 – 4:54 A.M.

A person heading the wrong way on I-75 caused a crash that injured two people yesterday. The Bowling Green State Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes by Ohio 18. 80-year-old Marie Woodruff of North Baltimore entered the interstate from the Ohio 18 exit ramp. She drove for a short distance before crashing head-on with a tractor-trailer driven by 42-year-old Eric Wilson.

Wilson’s truck ran off the left side of the highway, hitting the median wall. Woodruff’s vehicle spun around and stopped in the middle lane. Two other cars driven by 20-year-old Sarina Sangel and 22-year-old Kurtis Lucht swerved to avoid the accident but hit each other.

Woodruff and Wilson suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals. Officers cited Woodruff for driving on the wrong side of the interstate.

Carey Gets Grant For Lift Station Project

07/05/18 – 8 A.M.

Carey is getting a state grant to replace a sanitary lift station on South Vance Street. The State Public Works Commission awarded the village around $226,000 for the project. The project will cost an estimated $367,000. The village will pay the remainder of the costs.

The village had been waiting for the result of the grant before moving forward with the project.

Findlay City Schools And City Of Findlay Discuss Sharing Costs For New Officers

07/05/18 – 6:55 A.M.

Findlay City Schools could be getting help from the city in the future to pay for officers to be stationed in schools. Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik said that she and Findlay City Schools Superintendent Ed Kurt have been discussing a collaborative security approach.

The city would help pay for 6 to 10 officers to put in the school. She added that there is a lot yet to discuss so there’s no decision to make yet.

If the officers were hired, she said that it would help the city when school lets out in the summer.

Mihalik said that this is part of a multi-pronged approach for school security. Aside from having officers stationed in schools, there are also plans to update security cameras and have in-school mental health officials.

Phone Lines Down In Findlay Municipal Building

The public phone lines for the administration, police, and fire departments are not working at the Findlay Municipal Building, according to the Findlay Police Department.

Findlay Woman Hurt In Tuesday Crash

07/05/18 – 5:09 P.m.

A Findlay woman was injured in a car accident Tuesday. Police report that the accident happened at the intersection of South Blanchard and Second Streets. 57-year-old Shari Neubauer of Findlay was driving north on South Blanchard around 5:45 p.m. when 76-year-old Mashall Cumberland of Van Buren failed to yield at the intersection.

Neubauer suffered chest and neck injuries. Hanco EMS took her to Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Officers cited Cumberland for failure to yield at a stop sign.

Holiday Festivities Scheduled For Tomorrow

07/03/18 – 4:37 P.M.

There are several Fourth of July festivities happening on the holiday. Findlay will have a parade downtown at 11 a.m. starting from the Intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Main Street to the Veterans Memorial. There will be more than two dozen parade units with walk-ups accepted.

McComb will start their festivities at 8 p.m. at the village park. Tiffin’s holiday festivities will be from 6 – 11 p.m. at Hedges-Boyer Park with fireworks at dusk.

United Way Supports Children Going To Pre-School

07/03/18 – 4:18 P.M.

The United Way of Hancock County wants to ensure that children can get into pre-school. CEO John Urbanski explained that pre-school helps prepare kids.

Urbanski also explained how getting children into pre-school can help save schools money.

This can help cut the costs needed for remediation and help improve grades.

Urbanski said that United Way and the Community Foundation provide funding for pre-school scholarships. He said that this allows people who can’t normally afford the programs to get their children in.

Temperatures Ramp Up For Independence Day

7/3/18 – 8:40 A.M.

It’s going to be a hot couple of says. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Hardin County from noon today until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The forecast calls for temperatures in the lower 90s in areas to our south, but the humidity will make it feel like 100 to 105 degrees at times.

Areas outside the advisory will be hot too. The forecast for Findlay calls for the heat index to reach 99 on Wednesday.
