A new draft of Stantec Engineering’s Blanchard River Flood mitigation plan still calls for dry storage basins in areas south of Findlay. The Courier reports the Maumee Watershed Conservancy District saw the 100-page report Tuesday. Stantec says information including more accurate rainfall models show the basins could be smaller than originally proposed.
The first draft released in April of 2017 said the basins would impact 860 acres outside the existing floodplain. The new draft reduces that number to 596. The number of agricultural acres affected drops by 205 under the plan released Tuesday.
Stantec says it tried to address concerns about the size of the storage basins in its latest report. The company says that does mean a reduction of anticipated benefits from the proposed basins.
The Conservancy didn’t take action on the plan Tuesday.
