McComb Council Talks About Park Projects

6/26/18 – 6:58 A.M.

McComb village council members heard more about park and swimming pool improvements during their Monday meeting. Village Administrator Kevin Siferd said they had to close the small water slide in the pool. He said it’s missing bolts, and cracks are developing in the chute. Siferd says replacement parts could cost $5,300. A new slide could cost between $10,500 and $19,000.

In other park business, a McComb daycare is donating some of its playground equipment to the village park.

Former Findlay Resident Sentenced On Drug Charge

6/26/18 – 6:48 A.M.

A former Findlay resident received her sentence for selling drugs during a Monday court hearing. 36-year-old Averi Rose Gamache will serve eight years in prison for a felony drug trafficking conviction. She’ll serve that concurrently to a 10-year prison sentence she’s is already in prison for.

Police arrested Gamache for attempting to sell 28 grams of meth within 1,000 feet of Donnell Middle School in March of 2017.

Part Of North Blanchard Street Closed Today

6/26/18 – 5:30 A.M.

Road work continues in Findlay this week. You’ll want to avoid North Blanchard Street between Trenton and Crystal avenues today. The city is closing the road to through traffic so crews can tie into an existing storm sewer. North Blanchard Street between Trenton and Melrose avenues is also reduced to one lane for curb replacement and paving work.

Fishlock Avenue remains closed between Sandusky Street and Blanchard Avenue for road reconstruction. The southbound side is open during non-work hours.

The city has reduced southbound South Main Street to one lane during working hours this week between Lima and Sixth streets.

Crews are also still installing a new storm sewer line in the area of East Foulke Avenue. You’ll continue to see closures near the railroad tracks on Garfield Avenue as well as George Street.

Putnam County Fair Crowns King & Queen

6/26/18 – 5:21 A.M.

The Putnam County Junior Fair crowned this year’s fair king and queen on the opening night of the county fair. WLIO-TV reports Reese Mangas and Megan Shulte earned the honors. They’ve both been bringing animals to the fair for nine years.

Day two of the fair is kids day. All children 16 and younger get in free until 4 p.m. Tonight’s grandstand entertainment will feature harness racing starting at 5 p.m.

Expansion Of Miracle Park Underway In Findlay

6/26/18 – 5:14 A.M.

The expansion of the Blanchard Valley Health System Miracle Park started Monday. The Courier reports the $200,000 project will add 2,000 square feet of playground surface for children ages 1 to 4. It will also include a pavilion, bleachers, two accessible picnic tables, and landscaping. The Miracle Park features a baseball field with a cushioned rubberized surface that allows players with disabilities to play baseball.

The expansion is part of the ramp up to host the National Miracle League All-Star Weekend in September. The event will include mixers, baseball games, and a gala celebrating the accomplishments of the weekend.

A group of volunteers planning the event say they’ve raised about 95 percent of the money needed for the renovations. They also received $100,000 from the state through Ohio Department of Natural Resources funds.

93% Of Findlay High School Freshmen On Target For Graduation

06/25/18 – 11 P.M.

Findlay City Schools has a lot of students on the path to success. Director of secondary education Rich Steiner explained that many students have been getting credits for graduation.

Steiner added that this includes students that have already started taking end of course exams. The data collected is still raw and needs finalized.

Steiner said that they should have the final numbers in the next few weeks.

ODOT Announces Upcoming Changes In I-75 Project

06/25/18 – 4 P.M.

ODOT reports that there are a lot of changes coming to the I-75 widening project through Findlay over the next few weeks. During nighttime hours, the interstate will be restricted to one lane in both directions from Harrison Street to County Road 99. All of the exit and entrance ramps will be maintained during the project, except during the reconstruction of the northbound ramps at the State Route 12 and U.S. 224 interchanges.

The northbound ramps to and from U.S. 224 will be closed in early July. The entrance ramps will be closed for about 30 days. the exit ramps will close for about 60 days.

The State Route 12 ramp closures are expected to happen in September.

U.S. 68/State Route 15 is reduced to one lane in both directions between Lima Avenue and the City of Findlay. Crews are working on drainage and road reconstruction. That work will last throughout the summer. The ramp from U.S. 68 to I-75 will close on July 10 for the setting of bridge beams.

Lima Avenue will also see some changes due to the project. ODOT will close the road for about a year starting in mid-July for work on a roundabout.

Director Of Marathon Center For The Performing Arts Recaps 2017-2018 Season

During its 2017-2018 season, the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts hosted 320 events. Executive Director Heather Clow says only about 8 percent of the events are actual shows…

Clow told the Findlay Rotary Club on Monday that events like the food truck court and farmer’s markets also make the center more accessible to the community. She added those are great events to help the community see all that the center offers.

Tickets for the 2018-2019 season at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts go on sale Tuesday.

Local Gas Prices Continue To Decrease

6/25/18 – 7:18 A.M.

Local gas prices continue to fall. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.49 today. That’s down five cents from last Monday, and down 22 cents over the last two weeks.

Local prices are well below the statewide average, which stands at $2.60 per gallon. That’s down nine cents over the last seven days.

Putnam County drivers report paying $2.59 per gallon today. That’s a 10 cent decrease from last Monday.
