Workers Comp Discussion Takes Over Findlay City Council Meeting

06/06/18 – 7:53 A.M.

Findlay City auditor Jim Staschiak and mayor Lydia Mihalik disagreed on how to handle workers comp during Tuesday’s city council meeting. The Courier reports CompManagement was the first choice of the Ohio Municipal League. The league then changed it’s choice to CareWorksComp in late May

Staschiak signed with CompManagement and paid a $6,000 fee by the time the switch was made. Mihalik overrode his decision to partner with the league’s new choice. She insisted that there have been issues with CompManagement including a lack of communication. She said they’ve also failed to address extensive claims made by one employee. She said the employee has made 15 claims over a span of 20 years.

Staschiak said the current provider has a proven record of service with the city and has lowered premiums and capped liabilities. He added that CompManagement Health Systems is still a better deal. More on The Courier.

State Auditor Candidate Campaigns In Findlay

Space said that this cost public schools over 80 million dollars that went to the now-bankrupt ECOT.

Space added that he wants to use the position to help address the opioid epidemic.

He said that right now it’s like all of the counties in the state are trying to re-invent the wheel when addressing the epidemic. By auditing the effectiveness of medic-aid programs, he said he can stop the waste of tax dollars on ineffective programs.

He said he’d also use his position to take down payday lenders and gerrymandering.

The proposed amendment will take the project towards a larger outlet by Sandusky Street. The commissioners along with county engineer Chris Long agreed that it was a feasible idea.

Some residents were upset with the current project that would create an outlet tile towards State Route 12. They said that this would put more strain on their properties while easing the burden on the subdivision.

Carey May Change Income Tax Collection Service

6/5/18 – 7:20 A.M.

The village of Carey might change how it handles income taxes. Council members talked Monday about complaints they’ve received about the Cleveland firm that currently processes income tax payments for the village. Residents say Central Collection Agency hasn’t received payments, or have sent extra bills in some cases. People also said it took a long time to meet with representatives of the business when they came to Carey.

Carey’s contract with Central Collection ends on July 1. Council members have agreed to look at other possible options. One option is to have Findlay handle income taxes for the village.
