A Putnam County village could be in hot water with the State Auditor’s office. State Auditor Dave Yost declared Belmore’s financial records “unauditable” Thursday. The finding says the village has ignored requests for the information.
Yost’s office sent a letter to every Bellmore official in May requesting the documents. In a letter to the village, the auditor’s office provided a list of information required to complete the audit. Within 90 days of the letter, the village must revise its financial records and provide the data.
The state attorney general’s office could file a lawsuit to force officials to turn over the information.
